Snowpiercer: Season 1 (2020)

Season 1

Critics Consensus

Snowpiercer takes a different route with its source material, crafting an ambitious sci-fi mystery with style to spare, but with little of the subversive bite of Bong Joon-ho's theatrical adaptation.

Critic Reviews for Snowpiercer Season 1

All Critics (77) | Top Critics (22)

What works here is the way "Snowpiercer" the series expands on the science-fiction fueled dystopia of the film

But although Snowpiercer couldn't be more timely, somehow TBS's new show... doesn't even get out of the station before it goes off the rails.

This isn't Bong's "Snowpiercer," it's TNT's... Still, the series' dead ear for goofy language nearly sends it off the rails with two simple words: "train detective."

It just keeps pushing forward, completely unwilling to give you people to care about in this vision of the future, hoping that you'll just go along for the ride.

The most enthralling part of this show so far is absolutely the world building. The more we learn about the train, its factions, its underbelly, the more immersive it becomes.

Jun 17, 2020 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

Based on the evidence of the first six episodes, it's an adaptation that badly misapprehends the point of its source material; it doesn't even have the decency to be an interesting failure.

Aug 12, 2020 | Full Review…

This new TV series is a pale imitation of Bong Joon-ho's brilliant dystopian thriller.

Aug 5, 2020 | Rating: 2.5/5 | Full Review…

Fueled by enigmatic performances, especially by Diggs and Connelly, Snowpiercer eventually proves to be worthy of your time, but as more and more quality TV shows are announced and streamed, Snowpiercer is under the threat of getting lost.

Jul 21, 2020 | Full Review…

Snowpiercer delivered a solid first installment, and I can't wait to see where this season will takes us.

Jun 29, 2020 | Full Review…

Its concept is solid, its performances are admirable, but neither of those can hide the fact that Snowpiercer takes too long to get good, and by the time anything interesting happens, the ride is already over.

Jun 19, 2020 | Full Review…

Snowpiercer, for all its delays and production issues, is arriving at exactly the right time for its narrative to really hit home for anyone who might be sitting at home and watching it.

Jun 17, 2020 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

You'd have thought the last place you'd want to set an ambitious and sprawling epic was a train carriage that resembles a claustrophobic toilet pipe.

I like this movie so much with plot their give it.
  • Aug 23, 2020
Interesting concept, but was so poorly paced with not very likeably characters that I quit watching after episode 2.
  • Aug 12, 2020
I think it was Great and I saw the movie ,so I don't know what the @$?# there talking about. I loved it . I thought it very entertaining. Thank you and keep up the good work. Bring on next season.
  • Aug 10, 2020
Good concept, good plot, awesome performances. Definitively worth your time.
  • Aug 03, 2020
Be nice to understand what some of them say through the mumbling
  • Aug 03, 2020
Bad writing and a limp lead performance by Daveed Diggs make this show an unpleasant watch.
  • Aug 02, 2020
A lot of the plot made no sense. Perhaps I think too much. The rich people in first class seem to not understand that they are too old and to ensure the survival of a genetically diverse human species. The whole set up of the train is disaster prone. Whoever built the train, Melanie, has fairly poor risk assessment capabilities, events like keeping all the cattle in one place and having easily breakable windows, making enemies and not allies etc... The whole show is too far removed from reality.
  • Jul 29, 2020
Exciting, tense and kept me gripped all the way through. Had no idea how they were going to make a whole television serial out of the very simple premise of the film...but they've truly built a world out of that 1001 cars long train.
  • Jul 28, 2020
not as epic as the movie but still a good show will wait for the second season and see Sean Bean
  • Jul 24, 2020
THIS SHOW IS AMAZING, BREATHTAKING!! Every episode is a work of art, i can imagine even a RPG based on this show, simply perfect in every aspect, i respect the work in this, they don't have fear to risk it all, good job Netflix
