It's Christmas Eve in Abnormal Alaska. A mysterious nobody drops an evil gift on the door stoop of an average family of four. It's a snow globe, one of the more deadly of Christmas decorations. Of its own accord, it starts wrecking havoc on the small community. Disasters pop up with clockwork regularity, some worse than others. People die (mostly off screen, lessening the impact and confirmation that they did indeed die instead of just reaching the end of their small part in this plot). At least the dog doesn't die.

The CGI is limited, but I'm come to expect that from the Syfy Channel. And in some respect, have come to count on it. These dopey stories wouldn't be nearly as much fun were they up to par with most sci-fi adventures of note. It's their unrelenting ineptitude that makes them unique and watchable. I'm just glad that someone picked up on the sinister aspects of snow globes and brought it to our attention. Yeah, that's it, this movie was actually a public service warning.

Movie doesn't give enough time to allow the audience to know and like the main characters - the disasters start too soon. On one hand, I could watch the movie without any sort of panic - because I was not rooting for anyone about anything. But on the other hand, I watch these movies because I want that excitement.
I did feel a little panic when Mo ran off - since he is the most likeable character in the movie - but that was about it.
Also, did the movie ever reveal where the snow globe came from?

It's Christmas, and a family in a small Alaskan town receive an anonymous gift of a snow globe which, inside, contains a perfect replica of their small town. At first they think nothing of it, but gradually realise that the snow globe is a dangerous supernatural artifact which has the ability to destroy their town.

In the ideas department this one is fairly original and there was lots of scope for a great story, but unfortunately SyFy turned it into a soppy family drama, as they so often do. Basically, the globe causes all sorts of mayhem and the family go from one place to the next, get separated and then fight to get back together (sound familiar?) Having said that, the pace is fairly good with lots of action all the way through. And if you like special effects, there are stacks on display here. Unfortunately, they are really cheap digital effects, but nothing worse than any other SyFy telemovie you might have seen.

The idea of a supernatural snow globe wreaking havoc is appealing but the filmmakers don't capitalise on the idea - it just mysteriously turns up and does its thing. Bit of a shame. But it's all reasonably entertaining - just be a bit careful if your audience is small children. There are two ratings on the box - one for a 12 year old audience and one for 15. But there are a few reasonably violent deaths on display which might be a bit confronting for littlies.

I was so excited t find this movie available. It is my all time favorite bad Christmas movie, starts out like a Hallmark Christmas movie and devolves into an over-the-top winter horror fest that makes me scream with laughter. Unfortunately this video version has been significantly cut and a lot of the best bad scenes are missing entirely. Now it is just run of the mill bad, not so bad it is good bad.
