Anyone just think it feels so different than a typical Annie song?
Smoking section
Not really, friend. It's among what I consider her cinematic songs, ie made for a movie that doesn't exist yet.
Yes! There are a lot of songs which paint such an incredible picture that I am left disappointed that there is no music video. The party, Laughing with a mouth of blood and Rattlesnake are some the songs which I always connect with visuals. I can now imagine Smoking Section like that as well. We need a movie entirely made up of Annie's songs!
What is “a typical Annie song” lmao
Again, I think a comparison with Bowie is relevant here. "The Man Who Sold The Word", "Life On Mars", "Golden Years", "Sound and Vision" , "Ashes To Ashes", "Let's Dance", "Little Wonder" and "Hallo Spaceboy", to name but a few, are all typical Bowie songs. But they don't sound anything alike.
Annie Clark reinvents herself every album, even during an album tour, and gets herself a new look, her songs a new sound. I really hope she doesn't ever write a 'typical' St. Vincent song, I really like to be shocked, surprised and stunned with a new song or sound that sounds nothing like the last one.
i kind of agree here. i have to give it a few more listens i feel like im neglecting it lol
It’s definitely a lot more... raw and unadulterated. It’s pretty blunt in its suicide message, unlike Slow Disco which made it more poetic and artistic.
As a song itself it kind of lacks appeal but I appreciate the honesty and pain it must have took to write the song... I think that’s maybe why it gives off a different vibe
