Background

Smokehouse Pictures is a production company founded by George Clooney and Grant Heslov in 2006 as a successor to Section Eight Productions. The company derives its name from the Smoke House restaurant, located across the street from Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California.

1st Logo (March 24, 2008-May 12, 2016)

Visuals: Just the name "SMOKEHOUSE" in a grungy font on a black background, but applied differently depending on the movie.

Variants:

  • On Memphis Beat and Argo, the logo is on a white background. On the former, "SMOKE" is in blue.
  • On The Ides of March, the logo scrolls up with the credits side-by-side with the Appian Way Productions logo.
  • On Our Brand Is Crisis, the logo is tinted in beige and has a slight texture. This was done by Prologue.
  • On Money Monster, the logo appears via a static effect.

Technique: A digital graphic.

Audio: None or the opening/closing theme of the film.

Availability: It appeared on all films from the company from Leatherheads to Money Monster, as well as the TV series Memphis Beat.

2nd Logo (September 2, 2017-)


Visuals: On a black background, a puff of smoke forms the text from before with "HOUSE" colored in red.

Variant: On TV shows, the logo is shortened.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: A held-out string note accompanied by various hissing noises. Composed by Alexandre Desplat.

Availability: First appeared at the end of Suburbicon and was later seen on The Midnight Sky, The Tender Bar, and The Boys in the Boat. It also appeared on the series Catch-22, On Becoming a God in Central Florida, and Trial by Media.
