St. Vincent has said that the pop rework of ‘MASSEDUCTION’ cut ‘Slow Disco’ was encouraged by Taylor Swift.
Last week, Annie Clark unveiled the dazzling, uptempo version of the 2017 ballad. Titled ‘Fast Slow Disco’, the song sees the musician step fully into pop territory – becoming a standout moment from recent live shows.
In a new interview with Matt Wilkinson on his Beats 1 show, Clark has now revealed that pop megastar Swift inspired the release.
“I don’t want to start a weird rumour or anything,” Clark said, “but I swear to God, you know because Jack Antonoff’s bros with Taylor Swift because they work together a lot, and I feel like Taylor was like, ‘You should make this a pop song’.”
She added: “I know that she wholeheartedly supported that idea and I think the genesis of the idea was her.”
Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff co-wrote and produced on St. Vincent’s ‘MASSEDUCTION‘ record, having worked with Taylor Swift on ‘1989‘ and ‘reputation‘.

Clark also said that the Queen of Pop had an influence on the sound of the track. “For me it was like, it’s such a homage to ‘Like A Prayer’-era Madonna.”
