Nancy “Slim” Keith, Lady Keith of Castleacre, the American socialite and fashion icon of the 1950s and 1960s, left behind a legacy that extended to her daughter, Kitty Stephen Hawks.

Born on February 11, 1946, Kitty Hawks has made a name for herself as an accomplished American interior designer residing in New York City and Westchester, New York.

Kitty Hawks is the daughter of Slim Keith and film director Howard Hawks. In addition to her prominent lineage, Kitty is married to Larry Lederman, a photographer and retired corporate attorney.

The couple has carved out a life together, enriching the cultural tapestry of their surroundings. Kitty Hawks initially worked as an agent for International Creative Management in Los Angeles before making the move to New York City.

In the bustling metropolis, she served as the creative director for Perry Ellis and Stendig Furniture, showcasing her keen eye for design.

Eventually, she ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing her own interior design firm. Her foray into interior design began with a notable commission in 1988 when she decorated an apartment in New York’s iconic Hotel des Artistes.

Since then, Kitty Hawks has worked with a distinguished clientele, including luminaries such as Tom Brokaw, Candice Bergen, Agnes Gund, Michael Ovitz, Mike Nichols, and Diane Sawyer.

Kitty Hawks is not only an accomplished designer but also a committed contributor to the design community. She served for over a decade as a board member of The Design Trust for Public Space and the Municipal Art Society of New York, reflecting her dedication to the enhancement of public spaces and the cultural landscape.

Her expertise extends beyond the realm of design, as she has shared her knowledge with others. Kitty Hawks taught residential design at the Parsons School of Interior Design, passing on her insights to aspiring designers.
