It isn't Tim Burton's best work, but Sleepy Hollow entertains with its stunning visuals and creepy atmosphere.

Kalin D The characters are detached from the world they inhabit. Seeing someone dragged through a forest and then coming up like they were just in the shower really took me out of the movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/05/24 Full Review Audience Member This was peak Burton for me! Everything just works in the movie from the acting to the art direction. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/15/24 Full Review Alec C Prepare for the legend of Sleepy Hollow, with a new twist and an even darker take! Inspector Ichabod Crane is asked to investigate a series of beheadings on the grounds, only to learn that an evil spirit has returned and someone wants blood! Tom Burton manages to make an iconic fairy tale and turn it into a gory murder mystery that leaves us gaping with awe! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review Zenia S I loved it, truly one of Tim Burthon's best work<3 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/24 Full Review Blu B A Classic Horror Fantasy Thriller. The only real issue is the actual Whodunit plot can get lost in the web of entanglements, deception, side characters, and it gets too hard to follow to the point where when the villian is revealed it needs to explain itself for 4 minutes because it isn't obvious at all why it would be that person. It makes sense and it's kind of cool but defintely it gets lost in the actual Headless Horsemen mystery. That being said, that's really the only issue. Everything else is really well done about it and the pacing is excellent and more than makes up for the convuluted murder plot. There is so much mood, good acting, a great soundtrack, and it's just really interesting and unique overall with its visuals. What's amazing is how this is very dull grey and lifeless but it's always shot well, with amazing sets and details, and unique scenes constantly. The horsemen is really memorable as a villian despite the Walken scenes which are a bit bizarre. Despite a high body count it never feels pointless as it does lead the story forward each time but there is a lot of fakeouts simliar to a Scooby-Doo episode. That being said it's still really well done and a big reason is Burton's direction. Anyone who is a Burton fan, Horror or Fantasy fan, or fan of any actors in this will like this a lot. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review Raven M Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp ace their roles in this film . Very well written and directed. Practical effects are very good for the times it was made the same gose for the cgi . It is one of the films I watch every Halloween. Wendy Ide Times (UK) The Washington Irving tale is a perfect fit for the gothic sensibility that characterises Tim Burton as a film-maker. Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Jan Stuart Newsday Pickering's wide, tremulous eyes reflect the film's lurid appeal to youthful terrors. Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 3, 2018 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media There are lots of slasher movies better than this. Rated: 2/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Kristy Strouse Wonderfully Weird and Horrifying A supernatural splendor, gorgeously morose, Sleepy Hollow is a dark horse amid Burton’s filmography. Dec 10, 2023 Full Review Chuck Klosterman Akron Beacon Journal All the trees are wickedly gnarled, the sky is never blue, and nothing seems real For a story about a headless assassin in 1799, the setting is completely flawless. The story, however, is not. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 28, 2023 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast A gorgeous, Halloween-vibed whodunnit. Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 10, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
