Elton John – Sleeping With The Past

The best EJ album of the 90s since Too Low For Zero in 1983. Solid songs with great melodies. This was digitally recorded in Puk studios Denmark, the studio was recently destroyed in a fire unfortunately.
When I bought the CD in late 1989 it was on heavy rotation and then I had it in my Sony Walkman on the go!
I found an original vinyl copy around 20 years ago and that’s even nicer sounding than the CD!

Yes... excellent reissue credentials (LUDWIG/ABBEY ROAD) ,and indeed this is very nice indeed ,it is better than the originals i have to confess , great sound and very quite vinyl .

Played this for the first time today and was shocked at how good this pressing sounds! I may purchase a few more of his recent reissues.

One of my all time favorite EJ albums! I remember getting this on cassette in my stocking Christmas Day 1989.Whispers is such a great song!

i would recommend this album over any compilation you might be eyeing off, healing hands, sacrifice, club at the end of the street and durban deep are amounst some of eltons most rememberable tunes, furthermore the rest of the whole album has that deep relaxation for an ultimate chillout album with a smoothing beautiful atmosphere, people love to rave on about yellow brick road, but i would argue this album is just as great as that one.

Spacious and luscious mix on dead quiet vinyl. Why can't all records sound like this?

One of my favourite Elton studio albums. No filler here, just a fine collection of songs and a solid sounding pressing.

There is another LP version with blue label made in Bulgaria. I have that one

Elton and Bernies last batch of songs from the 80s are catchy and ambitious but after 25 years this album sounds sterile and unengaging. Tracks like 'Healing Hands' and 'Club At The End Of The Street' blast out with an almost gospel-like fire and you can imagine Elton filled with vigour and energy as he was victorious over the scandal rag tabloid The Sun in court the previous year, which spent almost 2 years printing lies against him. The ballads are as sincere as most of his from the 70s and 'Sacrifce' can still surely tug at the heart of the coldest humans. 'Durban Deep' stamps along in a Reggae fashion, if a little unconvencing, but 'Blue Avenue' is delivered with masterful vocals and a beautiful Flugelhorn solo. This album is sort of a concept that reflects the music that influened Elton and Bernie back in the day. The vinyl LP format is a little more touching than the CD for it's bass is deeper and warmer. A few months on in 1990, the double album of hits that spanned his career reconfirmed that Elton John was great and still is, even though the albums are by now the product of a man more involved with fashion and royalty. Elton's painful 80s period was over and the 90s welcomed the old piano man with open arms.
