ive been such a huge fan of these guys for over 40 years now i never get tired of the first two albums & all those great singles released between 1976 through 1978.... that was the hot rods most superior era THE 76 TO 78 era!!!!! thriller in 1979 was very good but i could hear the change the band had adapted at that time!!!! anyway what we get here are ALL THE GREAT EARLY SINGLES as well as the later ones up to 1985.... sadly fish n chips by 1981 was a so so record but i heard and still feel the humor in that record........ as explained eddie and the hot rods always get passed off as one of the first british punk bands THEY WHERE NOT!!! they where another oil city pub rock band right on par w/ DR FEELGOOD!!!! what eddie & the hot rods set out to do was play more raw and more faster then the feelgoods did that was it... the band started as far back as 1974... when there debut & best ever lp TEENAGE DEPRESSION was released in 1976 punk was coming up so a lot of the punks liked the hot rods so the band got entered into the punk genre that way.... two of the hot rods best covers ever ( i felt) where on the live at the marquee ep back in 1976 GET OUT OF DENVER & 96 TEARS!!!! nobody has ever covered those 2 songs better & nailed it like the hot rods did... anyway you get all the amazing 45s here up to 1985 when things where just going so so for the band.... this comes in a really nice fold out pack with a great booklet and the discs sound as great as ever.... great place to get all the best ever hot rods stuff in one small place!!!!! anyway i was very sad DAVE HIGGS passed away a few years back....... the man sure was a legend.... also it was nice to see the hot rods reunite w/ paul grey and the other originals back in the mid 1990s........ great band........ as i write this i was just told they are putting something new out soon........... should be interesting..... but nothing will ever top the 45s & first 2 records from 45 + years back.......

I realized that I don't have any Hot Rod records though I've seen them live twice, and they've been around for ever. Now I see why. This is a solid compilation of their early singles, and to be honest, it is quite unimpressive. Like a little punked up 2nd rate Dr Feelgood. A couple of great songs, and a bulk of not-so-greats. Good live band, though.
