Simple Minds’ lead singer Jim Kerr was awarded the Gold Medal for Best Documentary in the Culture & Arts.
Kerr scooped up this accolade at the New York Festivals International Radio Awards in NYC for his maiden documentary ‘Jim Kerr On Jim Morrison’.
Produced by Lonesome Pine Productions, the documentary focuses on the legacy of the legendary Doors singer, who had a major impact on Jim Kerr’s childhood.
The New York Festivals International Radio Awards is an annual ceremony held in New York, celebrating the world’s best radio productions, judged by journalists, artists and directors.
They are also often referred to as the radio version of the Grammy Awards.

Reacting to his win, Jim Kerr said, “We’re really touched by the recognition. I have to say, every great story, every great documentary relies on a compelling subject matter and in the history of rock surely there can be no more compelling subject matter than the music and poetry of Jim Morrison and The Doors”.
In the documentary, Jim Kerr also looks at the late singer’s influence on his own life and career.
Back in 2021, fans also paid tribute to Jim Morrison by flocking to his grave at the Père Lachaise cemetery.
Morrison was found dead in a bathtub in a Paris apartment. His band were recording their seventh album ‘Other Voices’ at the time.
Along with fans, several names from the world of entertainment also paid homage to Morrison.
