This museum is located in the upper schloss. We walked through the main museum, which has nice art work, including some from their famous son, Rubens. There are also displays of furniture, glass ware and many other things. Nice variety of things from the region. As a surprise, there is a mining museum, which tells a bit of the story about mining in the region. And there is an old mine, which you can walk through a bit of, directly under the museum. All was very interested. We also took a walk around the outside yards, which has nice views over the city and pretty gardens. Inexpensive and interesting.

This is a very old church in the region that is worth a stop to visit. It is a short walk from the Obere Schloss, where there is a place to park your car. The church was heavily damaged in the last WW, but has been restored beautifully.

The views from this artificial mountain over the city are really great and it is a very tangible witness of the industrial age. Going there is somewhat difficult as you have to walk up (and afterwards down) a very steep incline over loose ground. There is also no fence or other barrier at the edge so it’s definitely not recommended for those who may be physically challenged in any regard. What we were really annoyed by was the piles of garbage on the top - what’s so difficult about taking your rubbish back with you when you enjoy a sunset up here?

The Sieg Carre is located in the heart of Siegen, just on across the shopping mall "City Galerie". Here, in the Sieg Carre, you will be finding a handful stores, including "Das Naschwerk" - a café with - in my opinion - the most delicious ice cream in Siegen.

Actually, the Sieg Carre is a mini-mall with a large atrium - if you want 'oasis'. You can enjoy a cup of coffee, ice cream, or cake - before shopping, in between, and of course after shopping.

My tip: try the delicious ice cream - you will love it!

Even if you didn't intend to visit the area, this museum is worth a detour. Blending a modern annex with an historical building, it boasts a small but excellent permanent collection purchased mainly through the generosity of one family whose business is quite famous throughout the country. Some of its temporary shows are more than worth a visit, as is the case with the just opened retrospective of Remy Zaugg, arguably the most influential Swiss artist of the 20th century.
