Produced by T-Bone Burnett and recorded over 4 days, this disc reveals itself with repeated listening. Date For Church is beautiful, Don Cherry's trumpet adding so much. Land, an off-tempo waltz, suggests a swaying ship in it's arrangement, and lyric that tells the tale of a ship at sea. Shuffletown is one of those times when the right producer teamed with an artist open to capturing the magic in 4 short days; Joe helped out by bringing some great songs. Joe Henry has gone on to produce some great artists as well, and no doubt there were lessons learned during the Shuffletown sessions that he still employs today. As a long time fan, this is the album to which all others are measured.

His first masterpiece: late night vibes and jazzy feelings. Extremely cool
