      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Ryan Phillippe's efforts aren't enough to salvage Shooter, a tedious, under-developed drama that lacks an original voice or perspective.

Oliver W good amount of action and good story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/23/23 Full Review Jacob M I thought this was a great show! The story line is constantly changing but also all ties together. I think it was written by excellent writers! The action/fight scenes are plentiful and top notch! The only bad thing I can say about this show is that it ended. I really hope they bring more. Only reason I'm writing a review. Hopefully this helps in the decision to green light more seasons. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/23 Full Review Lyn B It started of alright, then I realised that this had quite a few episodes too be honest I did get bored.. If you don't know his name of the main person in this film, you certainly will at the end The don't stop saying his name during this movie.. I've stop watching during series 1, will I go back and watch the rest, cos you know how it's all going to end.... Watch the series HOMELAND, now that is good 👍 👌 👏...... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/23 Full Review Frederick C As a Former Marine I give it a B. Good military references but the premise is completely implausible. The level that Swagger becomes involved with Deep State high govt is ridiculous, and the end to the series is a major letdown. I think any Former Marine will be biased to automatically like a series about us, but Ryan Philippe is too small and hollywood-like to fully fit this role. Our real Marines are way more grungy than this guy. Ryan pretending to blend in covertly with tough guy aviator sunglasses and a backpack in an office building? He is about as covert as a Drag Queen at a Country State Fair. Like I said...Implausible and sometimes ridiculous. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review The NFL A Mindless fun just don't think to hard about the plot or you'll realize just how dumb it is. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Pavol S The first scene is all you need to see from these super stupid series; E x 15 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Meredith Blake Los Angeles Times Phillippe tries his best with the underdeveloped material, which includes a few groan-worthy attempts at Eastwood-esque tough-guy one-liners... but with a character like Bob Lee Swagger, who's not so much stoic as dull, there's only so much he can do. Nov 16, 2016 Full Review John Doyle Globe and Mail It's fast-paced and propulsive, but not exactly original. What makes it interesting is not the turning-and-twisting narrative, but the context. You know what I mean - guns, the U.S.A., guns and more guns. Nov 16, 2016 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com Shooter delivers a limited amount of simple-minded thrills, while seeking to emulate the pacing that turned 24 into a long-running hit. But the entire exercise feels tired. Nov 16, 2016 Full Review Rebecca Iannucci TV Line If you're a fan of government-centric mysteries, Shooter is certainly for you - and the premiere episode is just intriguing enough to work. Oct 18, 2018 Full Review Jim Alexander The Young Folks The pilot was intriguing, but didn't sell the show like it should have. Rated: 6/10 Nov 18, 2016 Full Review Daniel Johnson Screen Rant If the series can stay focused on Swagger's story without straying too far into subplots and avoid a convoluted narrative, Shooter has a good chance to find and retain an audience looking for an action-packed, if somewhat conventional thriller.
