I'm not trying to be fluent in Japanese. I'm just trying to learn and
understand it more. Since I'm not perfect with Japanese, I do not Guarantee a
100 % accurate translation so I welcome any comments and suggestions that you
feel would help improve this File. I'm doing translations for the fun of it, to
hopefully improve my Japanese more, and to give you a better understanding on
what's going on and what's being said during the scenarios I translate. Of
course it's also better to own the game(ESPECIALLY Sakura Taisen) and enjoy the
experience while playing as well, instead of just reading. I will most likely
ask for help and run into problems while translating so Please, feel free to

Just like in my last Sakura Taisen guide, once again the main characters name
will already be set for you. The name this time is Set as Taiga Shinjirou. The
nephew of Oogami Ichirou the Original Main Character from Sakura Taisen 1 - 4.

What is LIPS?
---------------------------------------------------
LIPS stands for Live Interactive Player System and it's the way we've been
interacting with characters and events in the games since the original Sakura
Taisen. Unlike Sakura Taisen V Episode 0, in this installment of Sakura Taisen
we are back to using this system as a way to gain trust and love points with
certain characters in the game.

Which version of LIPS are in this installment:
---------------------------------------------------
Regular LIPS: This is the type of LIPS you will be getting throughout the
entire game. During certain parts during a conversation/event a box will pop up
with 2-3 choices for you to choose from and you have a limited amount of time
to select one of them. Also letting time run out can be a choice(Although it's
rarely the correct answer.).
Double LIPS: First appeared in Sakura Taisen 2, These LIPS are pretty much the
same as Regular LIPS EXCEPT you have more then one regular LIPS to complete AND
you have a bigger limited amount of time then usual to complete them all.
Analog LIPS: First appeared in Sakura Taisen 3, the Analog lips are encountered
in situations where your line or action is already decided for you and you have
to choose how much emotion you will put into your words or action based on the
position of the line in the window. There is like one exception where
positioning the line all the way to the bottom of the window will change your
line.
Stick LIPS: Exclusive to Sakura Taisen 5. In this LIPS you basically have to
just turn the Analog sticks in the directions the game wants you to before the
time limit is up. Pretty simple. However in some Stick LIPS you have to be
mindful of the gauge because sometimes it sort of works like the Analog LIPS
meaning you're going to have to be mindful of how much power is in your gauge.
So having the gauge go too high on the gauge will be too strong(And you may get
a point deduction), and having the gauge be too low will be too weak.(And you
also may get a point deduction)
Click LIPS: Basically just clicking somewhere so you can get a responses. For
example clicking on someones mouth will always begin a conversation, and
clicking on a girl's breasts can be a very dangerous blow to a girl's trust and
love points if you over do it or in some cases select a wrong choice in an
effort to save yourself from a girls preaching.

What are Trust and love points and how do you Gain them?
---------------------------------------------------
Trust and love points are the points you gain in order to increase a girls
performance in battle,to boost Shinjirou's performance in battle,To increase a
sub-characters Trust points, and most importantly to gain enough points so you
can win the game with a member of the New York assault troupe of your choice.
This is accomplished by talking with characters and responding to them in ways
that increase their opinion and trust of you during LIPS events. During the
game, positive and negative changes in a character's mood are indicated by
corresponding chimes. For example correct answers will net you a normal chime
and a normal boost to a characters trust/love points, which will be marked as
:Character Name:+. Extremely wise choices will net you a long chime(Which will
be marked as :Character Name:++) and a big boost to a characters Trust/love
points. Saying or doing something wrong will net you a low chime(Will be marked
as :Characters Name:- ) and an average blow to a characters trust/love points.
Saying or doing extremely wrong will net you a very low chime(Also marked as
:Character Name:--) and a huge blow to the characters Trust/Love points.
Also losing any unit in battle will automatically be a huge blow to that units
Trust/Love points so be careful.

About Honorific titles

I'm starting to get really annoyed with to translating the Honorific titles
I've decided to just leave them as they are from now on. However it's only fai
for me to explain what each of them means, so here goes:
-San:>As some of you guys may know(Especially if you watch a lot of Subbed
Anime), this is the most common honorific you will hear. -San is the American
equivalent to Mr.,miss,ms.,or Mrs. It can be used in any situation where
politeness is required. To put it simply, This is THE honorific to use if you
want to address others in a formal polite way.
-Sama:>This honorific is the more formal version of "-San", It's used to
confer great respect for those with much higher rank than themselves. Example:
This would be used for a butler or slave(^_^;) to address his master. It can
also be used in commercial and business settings to address and refer to
customers. If I were to translate this, it would be the American equivalent
to "Lord-" or "Master-"
-Kun:>This Honorific can be used in three different ways. It can be used from
girls as an informal and intimate honorific mostly used for males. It is also
used by superiors in addressing inferiors, by males of roughly the same age and
status in addressing each other, and in addressing male children. In a business
settings young women may also be addressed as kun by older male superiors.
Which is why Ohgami always addresses Sakura,Sumire,Orihime,etc with -kun.
-Dono:>This is a old honorific, like Samurai Era old(You will hear this
honorific a lot if you check out Rurouni Kenshin.) Although it may not be used
as much(If at all) in daily conversation,it's still used in some types of
written business correspondence. It works the same as -Sama.
-Chan:>This is the informal, intimate, diminutive equivalent of san, used to
refer to children and female family members,pets, close friends and lovers.
Chan is also used for adults as a title of affection. It gives a sense of
childish cuteness thus making It very babyish, which is why some people are
less forgiving with being address with it than others.
-Senpai:>is used to refer to or address teachers, doctors, lawyers,
politicians, or other authority figures. It is also used to show respect to
someone who has achieved a certain level of mastery in an art form or some
other skill. It's most often used In school settings, where underclassmen refer
to their upperclassmen as "Senpai". This may be a bad example but: Say you're a
new employee at your job, everyone there is your Senpai because most of the
people at your job have more experience then you do. To put it simply, in the
workplace, it's used when a newer employee addresses an employee who has
seniority(I.e. more experience)in the company.
-Kohai:>Simply the opposite of Senpai. Used toward underclassmen in school or
newcomers in the workplace.

- Time for the first official episode. Completed the guide up until after you
meet Kayama during your first time playing the game.

- Completed the guide up until you first meet SunnySide and up when you get to
your first Analog Lips. Also I decided to slow down on this until I get my
glasses this week. If I keep translating the way I've been doing up until now
my eyes are seriously going to go bad.

- Got my glasses and ready to work again. I completed the guide up until the
first eyecatch and did my first tutorial. This should be the last small update
I will do.

- Completed the guide up until the first free movement. ALSO I got help with
the movie scenes from Maxson once again. Thanks again for you help.

slow updates. I've had other distractions lately and it's become difficult to

Those of you who have played previous Sakura Taisen games should already be
pretty familiar with the concept of eyecatches as they relate to Sakura Taisen
and can probably skip this section. For those of you new to the Sakura Taisen
series listen up:I'm not going to get into deep detail on what they are I'm
just going to put it into a short(?) description. Eyecatches are bascially like
save points, it's where you can save your game progress at present points in
the story. It's also where you can check both yours and your squad member
status, Check your squad member's cooperation status,return to the title
screen, and also change your options if you wish. In the case of Sakura Taisen
V at an Eyecatch, This is what the menu looks like:

Self-explanatory huh? Selecting 'options' brings you to of course, the option
screen. It's here where you can: Adjust the games message speed,adject the
cursor speed, let's you set the games text flow to Manural or Auto,Turn the
games sound to either Stereo or monaural,Turn the games voices off or keep
them on,decide to have the Analog dual shock vibration on or off,AND it lets
you decide what you want the games Cameratron's ringer to be. it's some pretty
common information, Maybe in future updates I'll post the options Menu. Also
since both Squad Member Status and Cooperation status are irrelevant at this
point of the game they will not be explained until later.

Various actions of The psycheon armor STAR consumes 'Action Points'. I'll
first explain 'Movement' the basis for everything, so remember it well.
Do you see the levers on each side of your hands? If you tilt the left stick
you can move your STAR. I'll show you the pattern.
What you need to be mindful of is the distance of your movements that drains
your Action points.
Once your action points reach Zero you won't be able to do any more actions,
so pay close attention to your remaining points.
Now then.....I'll move onto explaining 'Attack'. Connect the Star's 'Lock on
Cursor' to the enemy in the attack range.
In these cases, If you press the circle button you'll attack the enemy. Now...
I'll commence the attack. Take a good look.
.......That feels about right. Pressing the circle button a number of times
let's you attack, remember that.
Your action points decreases along with the number of times you attack as
well.
The STAR'S battle fundamentals are 'Movement' and 'Attack'.......Did you
understand all of that?

{Ratchet}: All right, Next up....I'll explain 'Ultimate Attacks'(必殺).
Sajitta, Can I ask this of you?

By using a powerful ultimate attack you decrease this
'Spirit Level'「気力値」.
When the 'Spirit level' is filled a certain amount press the directional
button up or down and change the attack mode to 'Ultimate attack'.
Afterwards just like when you're attacking normally, you connect the lock-on
cursor and press the circle button.
Take a look at this....This is my ultimate attack....The verdict chain!!

perform powerful attacks.

cooperation.
Once the enemy is within attack range the preparations are complete.......
Press the circle button to commence the cooperation attack.

level, You perform by using action points.
Let's see....Sajitta. Show Taiga-kun how to move and attack with the Air
battle model.
{Sajitta}: Watch closely Boy. Ascending,descending.....And rotation are the
basics of movement.
How to attack are also different then when you're on the ground. We use
missles so it's possible to attack enemies from a distance.
Once you allign the STAR on an enemy that has a mark.....Then the lock-on is
complete.
During the times when your mark has more then one enemy, you can use the D-pad
to move left and right to change your target of attack.
Once you've locked onto an enemy press the circle button to....attack!
You consume action points based on the number of attacks you use.
Well that's pretty much it. You can use ultimate attacks and Cooperation
attacks and the like so, feel free to experiment with various commands.
{Shinjiro}: So the consumption of the action points are together with the
basics. I understand.
{Ratchet}: The remaining problem is......dealing with this huge commander unit.
