Shenandoah is a country music group/band formed in 1984 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama by Marty Raybon, Ralph Ezell, Stan Thorn, Jim Seales, & Mike McGuire.

Shenandoah won the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration in 1996 for “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart”; the Academy of Country Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year in 1991; and the Country Music Association Award for Vocal Event of the Year in 1995 for “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart.”


  • Marty Raybon was born on December 8, 1959 in Greenville, Alabama. He currently lives in Tuscumbia, Alabama with his second wife, Melanie, who he married on September 14, 1985. Marty has three sons, Michael, from his first marriage; and Matt and Maxwell with wife Melanie. He also has a brother, Tim, with which he recorded as The Raybon Brothers. He has been with Shenandoah from 1984-1997 and from 2014 to the present.
  • Michael R. McGuire was born on December 28, 1958 in Hamilton, Alabama. He currently lives in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with his second wife, Sarah Darty McGuire, who he married on April 30, 2004. He was previously married to actress Teresa Blake from 1994-1998. Mike has two step-daughters, Alexis & Brooke Barnes, and one sister, Jan McGuire Coons. He has been with the group from 1984-1997 and from 2000 to the present.
  • Stanley Edward Munsey, Jr. was born July 10, 1955 in Easton, Pennsylvania, the son of a lawyer. He currently lives in Tennessee. He has a sister, Michele Elizabeth. Stan’s first band was The Chessmen. He is also a songwriter. Stan has been with Shenandoah from 1995-1997 and from 2000- the present.
  • Paul Sanders currently lives in Nashville and is a singer-songwriter.
  • Jamie Michael joined Shenandoah in 2014.
  • Shenandoah is known for “Ghost in This House”, “The Church on Cumberland Road” and “Sunday in the South”. Miranda Lambert honors the latter song and Shenandoah in her song, “Another Sunday in the South”.
