Honoring the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek, and as a companion to his previous film, “'The Doomsday Machine’ Revealed”, composer/director, Shem von Schroeck takes us further inside one of Star Trek’s most celebrated episodes, with an in-depth study of Sol Kaplan’s musical score. In this special edition of “The Doomsday Machine”, the dialogue has been removed in sequences containing musical underscore and includes a captioned detailing of Kaplan’s expansive use of his leitmotifs in their various forms. (The analysis is based on consistencies in the use of repeated forms of themes throughout the score). This edition is introduced by von Schroeck at the piano, with a brief explanation of Kaplan’s structuring of his three, main families of leitmotifs. As von Schroeck explains, audiences will never "watch the episode quite the same way again,” once they are exposed to Sol Kaplan’s genius.
