Attempted visit to shangani patrol battlesite
Last year I attempted to visit the site of the shangani patrol but the terrible state of the road prevented me from visiting and I had to abandon the effort. As the road was mainly sand and dirt where cars can easily become stuck in.
A few years ago, I did an online research on where exactly the shangani patrol died. The few details which were avaible at that time said, that near the shangani was a memorial site which you could access if you left a main road. That road to the memorial also had a memorial for the patrol. I tried to find any pictures of both memorials but found nothing and google street view also did not help. Were you able to find something?
I've seen pictures of the memorial and it was just a stone memorial with the plaques long removed from it leaving it bare.
I've also seen the original tree where they first came across the battlesite and one of the men carved on a tree to brave men. This tree is now in the bulawayo natural history museum.
