Big Joe Turner probably came out of the womb with that wonderful barrelhouse voice of his. Although this was recorded toward the end of his career(1977), he's in great form all the way through. The band, in particular Mike Bloomfield and Mark Naftalin, was top-notch. Much has been said about the so-called "declining" abilities of Mike Bloomfield at this stage in his career. You wouldn't know it from this recording. Mike burns through the set, playing with the kind of soul that most guitar players would give a body-part to play half as well. If you don't believe me,give a listen to "Give Me an Hour in Your Garden." Have Mercy! Admittedly, the recording is a little on the lo-fi side but the quality of the singing and playing more than makes up for any sonic deficiencies. Props to producer Norman Dayron for releasing this. Here's hoping that there are more nuggets like this in the vault. Enjoy.
4.0 out of 5 starsMichael Bloomfield en pleine forme .

Some good moments on these sides, but overall found the two Principals performances a bit disappointing. Would say this meeting of these two Great blues performers was a missed chance to do something outstanding. There are better examples of Joe Turner and Mike Bloomfield around.
