The recordings on the CD release Seven Day Weekend are culled from a The New York Dolls rehearsal tape recorded at Daily Planet Studios, NYC in March 1973. In order to keep the release down to a single CD, three of the twenty-two songs that were recorded were omitted (‘Bad Girl’, ‘Pills’, and ‘Personality Crisis’). These songs later surfaced on another CD comprised of recordings taken from these sessions called A Hard Night's Day. However, all of The New York Dolls demos and rehearsal tapes are now available on a double disc set titled Private World (Original Studio Sessions).
Overall, the performances are pretty ragged but it’s interesting to hear them working on the material that we would soon all know and love. There are a few treats too. Seven Day Weekend includes some cuts that never made it past this point. As usual, the in between song banter is golden. The Dolls could jive like no other. I’d buy album of these guys sitting around talking if one were to be released.
