The support that Garner and Affleck and Lopez have for their children is unwavering. All parents have encouraged their children to express themselves how they feel comfortable. Be it in different styles of dress, hairstyles, hair colors, and the like. This includes using gender-neutral pronouns for Emme after they decided that was what best fit them. As such, when Seraphina Affleck quietly announced a new name and Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were in full support, it was not a surprise.

Fin has yet to state what pronouns are a proper fit to accompany the new name and new identity. As such, they/them will be used in reference to Fin until such an announcement is made.

Seraphina Affleck publicly announced their new name of Fin while speaking at their grandfather's memorial

In April 2024, Garner's father passed away from apparent old age. As such, in the weeks that passed after his death, a funeral was planned in which Garner and her children that she shares with Affleck, Violet, Samuel, and Seraphina.

However, as those in physical attendance at the funeral and those who were watching it via live stream would soon learn, Seraphina was no longer going by that moniker. The new chosen name was instead Fin.

"Hello, my name is Fin Affleck," Fin stated before reading a Bible verse.

The name change may be something that Fin chose to do to affirm their identity as gender-neutral, gender-fluid, or transgender, to embrace who they truly feel like they are.

At the time of the funeral, it was not clear what Fin's chosen use of pronoun was.

What was clear at the funeral is that Fin felt supported enough to introduce themselves by a name they felt more fitting, showing that they had the support of their sister, brother, and Garner herself.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck Completely Support Fin Affleck

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have embraced Fin's experimentation with fashion and hairstyles over the last several years

Over the last several years, Fin has been changing their appearance to be quite a bit edgier than Violet and Samuel. While Fin's older and younger siblings tend to be more conservative in their choice of dress, Fin has not shied away from dying their hair multiple colors and dressing with a more punk and rock aesthetic, something that Affleck and Garner have completely supported.

Both of Fin's parents have been spotted out with them when wearing oversized graphic tees, baggy jeans and cargo shorts, bomber jackets, mismatched socks, and more. All of which have allowed Fin to express their identity via fashion as many teenagers do.

When Fin debuted their buzz cut in February 2024, complete with bright pink hair color, again, Garner and Affleck were unfazed. Both were photographed out with Fin and even with Emme from time to time, all enjoying themselves and having fun.

When Fin wore a suit, had their hair buzzcut but a natural color for the funeral, that did not come as a surprise. Likely, with Fin announcing their name to the public at large, they have been going by that name for some time.

There has been support behind Fin from their parents to give enough confidence to show the world who they are. Something they may have learned from Emme along the way.

Jennifer Lopez Embraces The Kids Discoveries Of Who They Are

Jennifer Lopez publicly supported Emme using the pronouns they/them in 2022

Garner and Affleck have not made any public comments about Fin's name. For that matter, Lopez has not either. None of which is a shocking revelation. However, it can be assumed that because Lopez was so accepting of Emme deciding to use the pronouns they/them, that she is just as supportive of Fin as the rest of the family is.

In 2022, Lopez was performing at the LA Dodgers Blue Diamond Gala when she surprised the audience with a surprise performer. That performer was none other than Emme.

"The last time we performed together was in a big stadium like this,” Lopez shared with the crowd. "And I ask them to sing with me all the time and they won’t."

Lopez went on to say, "So this is a very special occasion. They are very, very busy. Booked. And pricey. They cost me when they come out. But they’re worth every single penny because they’re my favorite duet partner of all time."

This was the first time that Lopez referred to Emme in public as they/them. As such, it would only make sense that Lopez would not only have no issue with Fin changing their name and potentially pronouns, but be there for them in whatever capacity was needed.

Fin is fortunate to be surrounded by so many who care about them and support them as their true selves becomes public. Something that may be becoming more mainstream, but difficult for any teenager to experience nonetheless.
