Ligue 1: Seko Fofana Scores winner as Lens keep up with PSG

Lens’ captain, Seko Fofana, scored the winner to give them all three points against Clermont in Ligue 1.

Seko Fofana celebrates his winner against Clermont

Lens’ Ivorian midfielder Seko Fofana scored in the 68th minute to give them all three points against Clermont on a rainy night in Lens.

With the game tied at 1-1, Fofana latched onto Jonathan Gradit’s through-ball before poking home, through the goalkeepers’ legs from inside the six yard box.

This was Fofana’s third goal of the season, and the box-to-box midfielder continued the good form that has seen him and Lens mount a surprise challenge against Arab money-backed PSG.

The captain of the side has led from the middle of the park, and his efforts seem to be paying off, as Lens now sit second on the Ligue 1 table, only two points behind PSG going into the World Cup break.

Lens have been in good form this season, and have lost just once, while winning 11 times in 15 league games this season. They have now won five consecutive Ligue 1 games, and are definitely one of, if not the most in-form side in the Ligue 1 currently.

When the World Cup break is over, they will resume their title charge against Nice on the 28th of December, 2022.

In addition to Fofana, Lens’ midfield was anchored by Ghana’s Salis Abdul Samed, who also got on the scoresheet, albeit at the wrong end of the pitch. Interestingly, Abdul Samed moved to Lens from Clermont this season, so maybe scoring for Clermont still feels familiar to him.

Lens also had Cameroon’s Junior Onana come off the bench in the dying minutes of the game, but he played no real part after coming on.

Clermont started with Tunisia’s Saif-Eddine Khaoui who had a good game and created two chances despite completing only nine passes before being substituted in the 75th minute.

They also had Angolan midfielder Jeremie Bela, and Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu starting for them, as well as Gabonese forward Jim Alleviah coming off the bench.
