"The Mother-Daughter Relationship Makeover: 4 Steps to Bring Back the Love" by Leslie Glass and Lindsey Glass arrived like a timely gift in my life. Despite being an ARC, its arrival felt serendipitous, aligning perfectly with the juncture I found myself in.

The unique aspect of this book lies in the dual perspectives offered by Leslie (mom) and Lindsey (daughter). Their shared insights guide readers through the journey of enhancing the mother-daughter relationship, providing a roadmap for cultivating love and understanding. Notably, the book fearlessly tackles challenging topics such as mental illness, substance abuse, secrets, lies, and toxic relationships.

What sets this book apart is the candid presentation of both viewpoints, offering a more holistic understanding of the complexities within the mother-daughter dynamic. The inclusion of journal prompts is a thoughtful touch, proving to be surprisingly helpful and insightful, even for those not accustomed to journaling. These prompts serve as a valuable tool, keeping readers on track as they navigate through the process of self-reflection and relationship-building.

In essence, "The Mother-Daughter Relationship Makeover" stands as a commendable resource for mothers and daughters seeking to foster a loving and fulfilling relationship. The book's comprehensive approach, coupled with the personal narratives and practical journal prompts, makes it an invaluable guide for anyone navigating the nuances of this special bond.

This book has proven to be not just a read but a timely companion in the journey towards building stronger and more meaningful mother-daughter connections with my own daughter.

I sincerely thank NetGalley, HCI Books, and Health Communications Inc. for providing me with the e-book in exchange for an honest review.

My adult daughter and I read this exceptional book together, and it resonated for both of us in so many meaningful ways. We wish that it had been available during the formative years of our mother-daughter relationship. Perhaps our journey toward mutual love and understanding would have been much smoother than it actually was!

Leslie and Lindsey write honestly about the mistakes they have made in their lives and in their relationship with each other, but they also offer constructive ideas to help readers repair or improve their mother-daughter connections.

They explore different personality and communication styles, and they key in on possible areas of conflict and offer practical suggestions to help resolve those issues. They emphasize the importance of journaling, an effective way of expressing thoughts privately and without confrontation.

This book is well-organized and very readable, and it offers practical ideas for repairing or enhancing any mother-daughter relationship. I highly recommend this book!

(ARC provided)

Unlike most ‘self-help’ books I’ve read so far, this one has a very personal approach to it. I was a bit confused by this at first, as some stories told seemed very private, and it felt a bit overpowering at times (closer to an autobiography).

Overall though, the book is incredibly well thought out, and I especially enjoyed the ‘journaling’ parts at the end of each chapter. It is also extremely broad and covers everything from mental illness to communication styles and toxic behaviors.

I’ve read the book incredibly fast, and intend to introduce my mom to it, so she can benefit from these self-reflection prompts herself!

Many of us use journaling as a self-reflective tool - writing down our thoughts and feelings to both illuminate and clarify them. The Mother-Daughter Relationship Makeover uses journaling and the authors’ powerful, sometimes raw, personal stories as ways to lead you back to the love between mothers and daughters. The anecdotes are personal and powerful. The insights they illuminate are absorbing. I found that many of the accounts paralleled incidents in my relationship with my own mother. I wish she were still here to read this book with me. Highly recommend.

What a hopeful message for Mothers and Daughters who feel they are in an irretrievably broken relationship. The Mother-Daughter Relationship Makeover is a masterful exercise to navigate this oftentimes difficult relationship. The journaling prompts at the end of each chapter helped solidify the well thought out lessons within. Leslie and Lindsey’s stories were so intimate, exposed and personal that I felt as if I were eavesdropping. However, they showed courage, unwavering determination and commitment to get back to love. All readers can benefit from this book regardless of your Mother/Daughter relationship. Highly recommended.
