Christian Pulisic will wear No. 10 for USA at the World Cup, following in the footsteps of Claudio Reyna and Landon Donovan, while Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner is given the No. 1... as Gregg Berhalter's side gear up for Wales opener next week

USMNT captain Christian Pulisic will wear the No. 10 jersey at the Qatar World Cup while Arsenal back-up goalkeeper Matt Turner has been handed the No. 1 shirt.

Pulisic and Co. got down to work Monday as they prepared for their Group B opener against Wales on November 21. The USA also made a huge statement by redesigning their crest on the same day.

The Chelsea forward follows in the path of Peter Vermes (1990), Roy Wegerle (1994), Tab Ramos (1998), Claudio Reyna (2002 and 2006), Landon Donovan (2010) and Mix Diskerud (2014) in wearing the No. 10.

Turner has been considered Gregg Berhalter's first-choice goalkeeper and was given the No. 1 shirt Monday.

Tony Meola wore No. 1 in 1990 and 1994, Brad Friedel took over in 1998 and 2002, while former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard was No. 1 in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Pulisic joined up with his compatriots at their base at Al Gharrafa training facility Monday following Chelsea's defeat by Newcastle on Saturday.

The 24-year-old, who has majorly struggled for game time at the Blues this season, came on at halftime but Graham Potter's side fell to a 1-0 loss.

Pulisic was one of 22 players who worked out Monday with four players -  Sergino Dest, Weston McKennie, Tim Weah and Haji Wright - due later in the day after playing club football on Sunday.

Berhalter named his 26-man roster last Wednesday with Wright, Jordan Morris and Shaq Moore the shock inclusions.

The USMNT head coach heaped praise on 'formidable' Wales before the two nations meet at the Al Rayyan Stadium at 2:00pm ET next Monday.

'I think at least to the American media, Wales is underrated,' he told reporters. 'When I look at their squad, it's basically a Premier League squad. You have Daniel James, who scored the other night against Man United, a high-quality player.

'You have Harry Wilson, high-quality player. Kieffer Moore, Neco Williams, Brennan Johnson, Gareth Bale, Ben Davies. To me, it's a really good squad, a formidable squad. They've been in international competition before, they know what it's like.

'It's going to be a very difficult game, as it will be when they play England. They're going to be a highly competitive team, we know the starting point next Monday night, we're in for a battle.'

Berhalter also spoke of the importance of the nation changing their crest to include the rainbow flag at the Qatar World Cup.

After their opener against Rob Page's Wales, the US face England on November 25 - the day after Thanksgiving - before a potentially decisive clash with Iran four days later.
