What is not to love about Alan Vega? Nothing. Now here is an artist who understands the concept of making music. While most other artists craft themselves a hit song, and then build a weak album around that song, Alan Vega has done just the opposite. When Alan writes a song that he feels is strong, he puts out a single, and I for one, looked forward to all of them, combining them on tape [remember cassettes] until I had my own album of sorts from the man.

Alan is electric, coming out of the band “Suicide,” but his roots go back to the rockabilly sound. It always strikes me with a sly smile at how many artist can trace their roots to rockabilly and how few fans don’t have an ear or understanding of the genre.

Alan was no kid when he began his musical career, he was born in 1948, and was heavily vocally influenced by Elvis Presley. But his first passion was for light ... he created light sculptures, and was very successful at it, I attended two of his shows in New York City. When you listen to the music of Alan Vega, it is impossible not to see the light, feel the radiating warmth, and colour that surrounds his music ... just look at the album cover to get an idea, or check off how many times he mentions the world “light” or “colour” in his songs.

I prize this release as one of the most untouched, under rated and out of the box releases of all time. It rocks and holds its own as an electronic enigma boarding on rock and the avant garde ... John Cale has praised this release, so have many others, why the public seems to have missed this man is beyond me.

There is no other record which I can compare this release to ... it’s over the top, and drives you smack into some cosmic neon sign, leaving you blinded, dumb struck and ready to play it again.

Lost Classic
I got this cassette at an army/navy store in the mid80s and have loved it since. There is something so simple and refreshing about it. And although rockabilly is far from cool (these things come and go) there is a punk edge here that keeps it rocking. This is primal music at its finest. It will always be a personal favorite.

I love everything Alan Vega had ever done, and this is no exception. This is clearly an attempt to make something mildly less assaultive and frightening than his work in Suicide, but because it's a Vega album, it is filed with martial repetition, unnerving synths, rockabilly pastiches, and those horrifying howls and screams.

Industrial freaks should be aware of this album due to the presence of 'With Sympathy' era Al Jorgensen as a co-writer on the title track. Al brings a kind of demented intensity to the song, with Alan shrieking and groaning over an icy, synthetic rockabilly tune. It's just totally brilliant.

Alan Vega, Al Jorgensen and Ric Ocasek on the one album? Sign me up.
And look at that cover art. How can you not love it?

The Ultimate 80's Bargain Bin Record Because No One Had Any Idea what the Hell to do with it!
An album that brings together Alan Vega, Al Jourgenson, and Ric Ocasek is worth a listen or two in my book. Not the car crash you'd expect either and MUCH better than the cover would suggest. This one combines the minimal drone rockabilly of his first two albums with the some big 80's production flourishes to good affect. 'Wipeout Beat', 'American Dreamer', and 'Goodbye Darling' are almost pop songs.... almost, and I could have done with them in the charts in 1984 over the garbage we got.
