Sweeney first gained attention through roles on the series The Handmaid's Tale and Sharp Objects. Portraying Cassie Howard on the HBO Max series Euphoria since 2019, Sweeney earned a 2022 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on the show. That same year, she earned a second Emmy nom for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie for playing Olivia Mossbacher on Season 1 of White Lotus.

Sweeney also recently starred in the rom-com Anyone but You alongside Glen Powell, and the superhero blockbuster Madame Web with Dakota Johnson. Appearing on The Tonight Show on February 27, Sweeney described the feeling of arriving at SNL to rehearse and perform as "like walking into camp."

The following week, Josh Brolin will host the March 9 Episode of SNL, with Ariana Grande as the musical guest.
