Rotation and Opportunity: A Closer Look at Sascha Hildmann’s Strategy for Münster’s Squad

He doesn’t even stop at his captain…

Nobody is seated with him. Hildmann rotates through Prussia!

Third division promoted Münster has 26 professionals in its squad. After the first ten match days, all but four have already played.

Which suggests that everyone – more or less – gets their chance under head coach Sascha Hildmann (51). “The season is very long. With cup and test games we have over 50 games. Recently we even had five in 15 days. This is only possible with sensible and healthy load control,” explains Hildmann, who actually sent the same starting eleven into the race for the first time in two consecutive matches. In the 4-0 at home against Aue and in Halle (4:1). Otherwise always cheerful mixed.

However, Münster’s coach leaves it open whether the Adlerträger will play like this again on Sunday in the traditional duel against 1860 Munich (4:30 p.m./Hammer Straße). Says: “We still have almost a whole week of training ahead of us. A lot can happen there.”

In any case, it is clear that the current form of each individual as well as injuries still have the greatest influence on the line-up. In addition to their own tactical orientation, Hildmann and his assistant Louis Cordes (30) also focus on the opponent. Whether more defensive or offensive work is needed against him. Flexibility is important.

But sometimes not immediately understandable for every player. After all, everyone has the ambition and demand to be there from the start. Not being nominated can quickly result in a grumpy face. Hildmann calmly: “That’s part of it. One needs a little more encouragement than the other. What is crucial – and I tell my boys this again and again – is that they give their best in training every day and are satisfied with themselves and their work. This helps you and the entire team!”

The best example is promotion captain Marc Lorenz (35). He suffered a hairline fracture in his right fibula during preparation against Kickers Offenbach (4:1) and then had to take a break for weeks. Missed the first six league games. After his recovery, he initially continues to work part-time. In the subsequent four matches, the experienced left-back only received a total playing time of 84 minutes. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Lorenz is – and remains – an undisputed figure among the “Black-White-Greens”.

Only one Prussian has currently not missed a single league minute: goalkeeper Maximilian Schulze Niehues (34/10 games/990 minutes). Also on the pitch in all ten games – albeit for different lengths of time: Daniel Kyerewaa (22/10/834), Sebastian Mrowca (29/10/743), Rico Preißinger (27/10/650), Joel Grodowski (25/10 /633) and Malik “Batman” Batmaz (10/23/498). Followed by Thomas Kok (25/9/777 – 1x injured), Niko Koulis (24/9/752), Gerrit Wegkamp (30/9/474) and Yassine Bouchama (26/9/334 – 1x injured).

It continues with Alexander Hahn (30/8/720), Andrew Wooten (34/8/187 – injured twice), Luca Bazzoli (22/7/614), Darius Ghindovean (21/7/152), Benjamin Böckle (21 /6/462), Simon Scherder (30/6/372), Marc Lorenz (35/4/84 – 6x injured), Jano ter Horst (21/2/180), Dominik Schad (26/2/180 – 8x injured), Shaibou Oubeyapwa (30/2/171 – 6x injured), Thorben Deters (28/2/174) and Ogechika “Ogi” Heil (22/1/26 – 5x injured).

Prussia’s number 2 goalkeeper, Johannes Schenk, was able to show what he can do in the cup game against Bayern

The only outfield player besides the long-term injured Dennis Grote (37/torn cruciate ligament), who has so far only had to make the bench for the seventh team in the third division, is young talent Marvin Benjamins (21). But Hildmann knows about his qualities and assures: “He doesn’t need to worry either and will certainly have enough opportunities to demonstrate his skills.”

This will probably be a little more difficult for the goalkeepers number 2 and 3, Johannes Schenk (20) and Roman Schabbing (21). Munich loanee Schenk at least had a big and good performance in the DFB Cup against his Bayern (0:4) – as a representative for Schulze Niehues (who was also looking forward to fatherly joys) -…

● Incidentally, all eagle bearers emerged from the strong away game in Halle without any major injuries. Lallerdings “Johnny” Grodowski started the new training week on Wednesday – after a two-day break – with a massive swelling on his shin. But I was still able to follow the normal program without any restrictions.
