If real wants more capacity why not just convert some of the lower stand seated area into standing areas where the ultras are with the ability to convert it to seating for uefa games like dortmund/bayern do for example? Unless there is specific Spanish law preventing it i don't see what the issue is.

Could be possible but a couple of considerations:

1.- Current layout its already tight, not sure how many more places they can actually add, with some sort of safe standing. Regardless of regulations.
2.- Capacity after renovation will be about 81,000, which seems "enough", several regular season games are not sold out. Obviously for games like today, you could sellout a 500,000 Bernabeu.

The last two CL ties at this stadium have been classics that will go down in club history. A shame that the most visible part of the stadium during broadcasts is tarped off.

Is there a timeframe for when that tier will be reopened? Assume it will be operational in time for CL knockouts next season.

Does anyone know if they have started the renovation of the skyboxes a top of the second (or just beneath the third) ring on the one far side of the stadium?

To me on pictures it seems like it is totally visibly through the stand at the moment of that area?

It will be ready for the start of next season. Both south and west low tier will be rebuilt this summer.

So those pictures of the cave that we're seeing is actually going on under the current pitch?
As incredible as that may sound like, yes
excavation began last summer and continued along during this season

The cave is seen in the bottom part of this image from last summer as it was being covered by those plates of metal. This cover allowed a pitch to be layed on top enabling the stadium to host matches during the season while the caved continued to be excavated

What Ultras? Florentino Pérez kicked them out many years ago.
