About
Surprised not to see this on your web site - many people (myself included) consider it the best Mexican Food in Santa Barbara. Service also excellent, at least when they are not crowded, which the often are! Just down the street from another outstanding (but simpler) Mexican Restaurant, La Super-Rica Taqueria.

We went to the original one on Milpas while our car was in the shop a couple of blocks away. My wife can't have any dairy, and she got a grilled veggie burrito with bean and salad sides that were specialy-prepared with her sensitivity in...mind. I had tamales, and they were first-rate. Only downside: it's a bit noisy when crowded, as it was around lunchtime when we were there. Usually we get take-out from the one on De La Vina St., close to our home.More

This popular mexican restaurant serves good Mexican food in such gigantic portions you can hardly manage. You order at the counter and then the food is brought out to you. Free Nachos with all kinds of toppings and sauces to choose from. Busy!

Los Agaves is our new favorite Mexican restaurant in Santa Barbara, and that's saying something where there are a number of good ones. EVERYTHING was so fresh and well-prepared. He had the enchiladas suizas and deemed them the best ever. I had the chicken taquitos...and they were perfect: crisp and also tender (meat), outstanding pico de gallo, just-fried chips with an assortment of salsas from the salsa bar. His beer was only $3 at lunch! My iced tea was freshly made and outstanding. How happy are we? We'll be back and also tell all who will listen.More

Avoid this restaurant. Their service is the absolute worst. They were slow, rude and didn’t care. They were so slow my food was cold when I received it. When I tried to talk to them they “declined” to speak with me. This is not the...first time I experienced their poor service - maybe I’ll learn from this latest negative experience?More

This restaurant was a bit away from State Street but we were in the mood for Mexican food at a place away from the hustle bustle and where we would find good food. We were pleased with the choice. We reached early and we could...see the place filling up at 6.30 pm. The margaritas were good as were the quesadias. There were not just tourists but locals as well at the place.More

We arrived a little later than planned and several specials were already sold out, much to our dismay. Ah well...we "made do" with some deliciously baja fish tacos, some great salsas and delicious margaritas. Patio was extremely pleasant and we found service to be quick...and helpful.More

It was our first time visit to Los agaves. You order at the counter and you go to the patio holding a number, you wait in line waiting for a table. Once you are seated, they bring the food to you. We orders the taquetos...as appetizer. It didn’t have mich flavors but the moljacetes made it up for it. It was delicious and we loved the sauce, it didn’t come with rice, so we ordered a side of rice. The service was friendly and fast. Their prices are moderate and affordable.More

So much cheese in the alambres!!!!!!! Tremendous amounts of melted cheese. I chose Shrimp as my protein of choice. It was good except the food was hot and the shrimp still had the tails intact. Burned my fingers to clear the shrimp of its shell....But it was good and I will order this again! I also had the Mango margarita. Go Large. It is worth the money. The rest of the family was happy with their food as well. Only cons: 1) They gave me a plastic cup with a crack in it. My son didn't notice the crack and it made a mess at the beverage station. Pay attention cashier to what you give out to the customers. 2) So many flies in the back of the dining room. Don't know why they were concentrated there, but I did feel bad for the customers trying to eat there. The food was good. Overall we plan to return.More

We stopped here for dinner on the recommendation of friends. It was a little awkward to start out, as we parked in the back lot, and all the doors were open, so we weren't sure where to enter. Once we found the main entrance, we...were handed menus and told to order at the counter, then find a seat. I had the garden burrito, and my boyfriend had one of the burritos with meat. Salsa bar is great. Very delicious food, and I was pleased that my burrito wasn't dripping in cheese, so it felt more healthy and better quality. I would recommend this place.More

We stopped by the place for lunch on our way to Pismo. Everything we ordered was great - steak burrito and shrimp Los Agaves salad. We read that outdoor seatings are available but didn’t find any (too lazy, didn’t ask).

You know the food is good when you see a table loaded with take out orders as you walk in the door, and have to stand in line for 15 minutes just to place your order! The food was indeed outstanding. Two of us had...the Huarache, which we could have shared. Another had the Alambres, which could also have been shared. Some of the best Mexican food we have had.More

This place is excellent! A MUST VISIT when in Santa Barbara. The seafood enchiladas are my wife’s favorite Mexican food dish of all time. I’ve tried something different every time we’ve come and EVERYTHING is Excellent. Very fast and friendly service (even when the place...was open like normal and full of people). The restaurant is very clean and has a really nice decor.More

I ordered an Agave burrito with pinto beans, fish, shrimp, carnitas and one red/one green salsa. It came with a salad and rice. Big portion. I shared with my husband. Great tasty sauce. I ordered online and it was ready within 15 minutes. Parking was...challenging but I managed to find street parking. Outdoor terrace was full when I arrived at around 6 pm. Courteous staff. Would come again.More

I've lived in Santa Barbara for over a decade, and I've tried it all. Los Agaves has the best Mexican food in town! Their salsa bar is diverse and exciting, and you can't go wrong on the menu. I love the mole poblano enchiladas--a unique,...spicy-chocolate sauce covered chicken enchilada, served with incredible rice and beans!More

This was a great surprise find for us. After our first visit to the Botanical Gardens (another must do), we stopped for lunch. Tacos al pastor with pineapple was fabulous, and equally delicious was the special tacos andariegos (skirt steak tacos with corn & rajas)....Plenty of outdoor seating in front & rear parking lot ( converted) with canopy covering. Very much authentic, delicious, and quick service without sacrifice to quality. Take out as well. Order at the counter, served to your table.More

They do not take reservations at all. It is basically a walk-in counter service type restaurant. You pick your own table and they bring the food, silverware, etc. to your table when it’s ready.
