This is a nice beach. That didn't have anyone renting out chairs for the day, and the sections for the public and private are not clearly marked or sectioned off. The beach is beautiful and there are nearby restaurants that are all within walking distance.

The caves are in a well maintained park. Entrance fee is 300 DR, well worth it. Our guide was friendly, and fairly informative, though I would have liked more information about the Taino people and how they use the cave. There are a lot of steps, and sometimes it was difficult to see because the lights kept shutting off, so not for someone with mobility issues. The caves themselves were very interesting , sometimes beautiful, and the Taino pictographs made it unique. The system is very large, so there was a lot more that you couldn’t see. On the way out you also get to see rhinoceros iguanas, which are an endangered species native to Hispaniola, so that was definitely cool.

During our trip to San Pedro de Macrois we really didn’t have much planned. The city is after all not much of a tourist attraction like nearby Santo Domingo is. This included what we intended to see, with one exception. I’d noticed the Catedral San Pedro Apostol on maps as part of the pre trip planning and decided it might be worth a look.

The present church was built in 1910 on the site of its predecessor. This first church was constructed in the 19th Century and was destroyed by hurricanes and fire.

The new church was the first building to be constructed in the Dominican Republic of cement from a shipment that had recently arrived in the country as part of an overall modernization process. This was far superior to the palm and wood construction of the original building.

The church is located in the centre of the city not far from the Rio Higuamo (Higuamo River). It sits on small square with the Estatua De Los Padres Patrios, a monument to the Fathers of the Dominican Republic in front.

Flanking it to the south is the Municipal Hall of San Pedro de Macrois. On the opposite side are two small buildings containing respectively the Centro Cultural Macorisano and the Museo de Historia De SPM.

The simple freshly white painted cement church stands in stark contrast to most of the surrounding buildings. Many of the original ones are sadly run down and look it. Others have been replaced by more modern structures like the massive Almacenes Iberia store directly behind the church.

The bell tower is rather high and in fact can be seen from most of the surrounding area. This was a convenient navigation aid for us in our stroll around the city.

Entrance is through the north side door off of Av. Independcia across from the Museo de Historia De SPM, although one should check with the church security guards posted at all entrances as this may have changed.

The first thing you notice once inside is how cool it is, even though there is no air conditioning only a few fans. The concrete walls buttresses and ledges are all in the Gothic style.

The white paint contrasts starkly with the dark wood of the elaborately carved benches, pulpit and altar. A splash of colour is provided by the oil paintings and stain glassed windows. One of these above the main entrance has a Franciscan crest in honour of the order who built the church.

Entrance is free, however there is a poor box near the entrance for much appreciated donations.

Beautiful beach. What a shame that it is surrounded by garbage (like all the beaches in this area). Plus you are charged 600 pesos for a sun bed 🤣 For this money, I expect those lazy dudes to remove the mountain of garbage around it. You coud do some awesome cliff jumping if you could somehow walk through the garbage to get to the cliff. If you can manage the garbage, it's a beautiful beach

This is a very good golf course for beginners or intermediate players. The majority of the holes are not too difficult , there is a couple of holes you do have to go pass water and those could be challenging. The staff is very friendly. I went today and plan to go at least once a week. Mondays early in the morning you basically have the course almost to yourself and that is very nice. They rent clubs and that is a big plus for those traveling without their own clubs.

We had a great time. The course apparently has been recently remodeled. It was awesome--lakes, waterfalls, long greens, accommodating people. We went for their breakfast in the lodge--it was great and a bargain. There is lodging located on the grounds. We stayed at Casa del Lago, a small condo community a short walk from the clubhouse. An all around great time. It only rained one afternoon.

Shop staff unfriendly with little English, exorbitant price for what is very average course with only three decent holes. First hole is so dull it will send you to sleep! If you like to be taken to the cleaners this is the course for you, otherwise avoid.

A great way to spend a few hours learning about our favourite rum! Guide was great, spoke English very well. Rum in the store was a lot less than at the resort or airport.
