  • Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Two steals Sunday

Kim went 0-for-2 with two walks, two steals and two runs in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

Kim drew walks in the sixth and ninth innings. He stole second and third in the ninth before ultimately coming in to score on a bases-loaded walk from Nate Pearson. Sunday ended a five-game hit streak for Kim, who is now hitting .226/347/.417 with three homers, 13 RBI, 14 runs, six steals and a 16:16 BB:K in 102 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Churns out another save

Suarez picked up his seventh save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth in the win over the Blue Jays on Sunday. He allowed one hit and struck out a batter.

Suarez entered to protect a three-run lead and did so without breaking much of a sweat. He got through inning in nine pitches and started things off by striking out Vladimir Guerrero before getting Justin Turner to hit into a game-ending double play. Suarez remains perfect on save chances and now owns a 0.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 9:4 K:BB in 9.2 innings.

  • Padres' Joe Musgrove: Goes seven innings in win

Musgrove (3-2) got the win Sunday over the Blue Jays, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three over seven innings.

Musgrove reached seven innings for the first time this season and the first time since July 4 of last year. Most of the damage against him in this one came from the long ball after Davis Schneider and Ernie Clement took him deep in back-to-back innings early on. Schneider then later grounded in a run in the seventh before Musgrove's day concluded. He's exhibiting lower strikeout numbers early on compared to past seasons and has five or fewer strikeouts in all but one start thus far. Musgrove will take a 5.74 ERA, 1/53 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB (31.1 innings) into his next start, which projects to come against the Phillies.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Homers in Sunday's win

Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

Bogaerts took Chris Bassitt deep in the third for his second home run of the year and later worked a bases loaded walk in the ninth to give the Padres some insurance. Sunday was Bogaerts' first multi-hit effort since April 3 and he's knocked in runs in back-to-back games for the first time since their opening series in Japan. It's been a slow start for the 31-year-old, as he's now slashing .204/.275/.290 with 10 RBI, 15 runs and a 9:18 BB:K in 102 innings.

  • Padres' Randy Vasquez: Draws second start

Vasquez is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Rockies at Coors Field.

Though Vasquez had struggled over his three starts with Triple-A El Paso prior to being called up Saturday, he held his own in his 2024 MLB debut, limiting the Blue Jays to one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings in a losing effort. With Yu Darvish (neck) set to miss at least one more turn through the rotation while he's on the injured list, Vasquez will benefit from another start with the Padres.

  • Padres' Randy Vasquez: Dealt loss in season debut

Vasquez (0-1) took the loss Saturday against the Blue Jays after he allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out three.

The right-hander was called up for his season debut and surrendered a three-run homer to Daulton Varsho in the opening inning, though none of the runs were earned due to an error earlier in the frame. Toronto also scratched a run across in the second, but Vasquez then pitched through the fifth inning with no further damage. San Diego doesn't have a scheduled off day until May 2, so Vasquez could stick in the starting rotation while Yu Darvish (neck) is on the 15-day injured list.

  • Padres' Matthew Batten: Optioned to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Batten to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Batten was called up by the Padres on April 16 and went 1-for-3 with a triple the following day against the Brewers. Batten's move to Triple-A El Paso makes room for San Diego to call up Graham Pauley, who will start at third base Saturday against the Blue Jays.

  • Padres' Graham Pauley: Back with big club

Pauley is starting at third base and batting ninth in Saturday's contest against the Blue Jays, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Pauley started the season in the majors due to Manny Machado being limited to DH duties with an elbow injury. Pauley went 2-for-15 with one home run and three RBI before being optioned to Triple-A El Paso on April 9. He's had better success in the minors, slashing .290/.436/.677 with four home runs and 11 RBI over 39 plate appearances in Triple-A. Pauley will hope to bring some of that production from El Paso to his second big-league stint. The Padres optioned Matthew Batten to make room for Pauley, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

  • Padres' Randy Vasquez: Slated to start Saturday

The Padres plan to recall Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso to start Saturday's game against the Blue Jays in San Diego.

Acquired from the Yankees over the offseason, Vasquez failed to make the Padres' Opening Day roster but will get a chance to make his San Diego debut this weekend. He'll be joining the rotation as a replacement for Yu Darvish (neck), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Through three starts at El Paso in 2024, Vasquez has pitched to a 7.94 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB in 11.1 innings.

  • Padres' Fernando Tatis: Collects sixth homer

Tatis went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Tatis smashed a 390-foot home run to left field in the third inning to account for San Diego's lone run on the evening. The Padres right fielder has preferred hitting at home so far as five of his six homers have come in Petco Park. Tatis has enjoyed a solid start to his season, producing a .289/.379/.530 slash line over 95 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Matt Waldron: Coughs up five runs in loss

Waldron (0-2) took the loss Friday, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk over 4.2 innings against Toronto. He struck out two.

After allowing a first inning solo homer to Justin Turner, Waldron ran into trouble in the second. The Blue Jays kept putting the ball in play, collecting five hits and four runs off the Padres starter in the frame. Waldron has a 4.74 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over his first 19 innings this season. His next start is scheduled to come on the road against Colorado.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Back in lineup Friday

Cronenworth (calf) is starting at first base and hitting third in the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Cronenworth left Monday's game against the Brewers after experiencing calf tightness. He sat out the Padres' last two games, and the team's day off Thursday has given the 30-year-old enough time to recover. Cronenworth is slashing .254/.333/.465 with three home runs and 14 RBI over 81 plate appearances to start the season.

  • Padres' Michael King: Fans 10 in tough loss

King (2-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Brewers but struck out 10 and allowed a run on two hits and two walks over 7.2 innings.

King held Milwaukee without a hit until the seventh inning, but the lone run of the game was charged to him after he exited in the eighth, as the bullpen allowed an inherited runner to score. The 28-year-old generated 17 swinging strikes on 109 pitches, and he now has two starts this season of at least seven frames. King has a difficult draw for his next turn through the rotation, as he currently lines up to face the Rockies at Coors Field early next week.
