What travelers are saying
- Deb DColumbia, MO38 contributionsWe had visited with family years ago as kids and wanted to return and see it again now. It's a little run down and the walkways are narrow and crowded. This is an older area - lots of non-ADA compliant points if that is of concern for your group.
We stopped at the Original Mexican Restaurant and had a nice drink and some chips and salsa. Had also put a review on their site, but mentioning it here because the choices seem overwhelming and this spot is within a few blocks of the Hyatt. If you come from the Alamo and access the Riverwalk by taking the elevator in the Hyatt lobby down one level and then go left; - the Hyatt has signs at the hotel indicating this access to the Riverwalk, so I believe it's meant to be a public access point. We weren't staying there.Written April 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was surprised when I went into the gardens of the Alamo and noticed the statues of the people that were discussed during our tour. I wondered why the tour guide didn’t do part of the tour there where he could point to the statues of the people he was talking about. Having said that I will admit the stories were very interesting and his descriptions of the time period were on point. I really enjoyed learning about this historic site.Written April 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ArielleMobile, AL28 contributionsI had a great experience visiting the Natural Bridge Caverns. This was my first time ever entering a cave. I did the Hidden Wonders Tour. It was very cool getting to go down inside and learn so much about various rock formations and calcifications. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and our group had a good time. The light show at the end was great. Would definitely visit again and do the Discovery Tour next time to visit the other cave!Written April 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GarfieldluvrDenver, CO972 contributionsThis mission is where the visitors center is located, so it is worth a stop. Also, probably the largest mission of the five. Not the prettiest (in my opinion), but worth a stop for sure.Written April 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ArielleMobile, AL28 contributionsThe San Fernando Cathedral is beautiful. The architecture of that building is just great. I arrived an hour before the light show started to get a good seat. The light show was at 9PM. It was very nice, and I enjoyed the music. There was a pretty big crowd that had gathered by the time the show started. A nice way to end my night after a long day of exploring!Written April 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dreamspeakerMiddleton, WI466 contributionsReally lovely gardens formed out of an old quarry. Lots of little side paths to explore, and paths on many levels. Flowers were blooming when we were there and smelled gorgeous. So many butterflies, birds, koi, and turtles. We really liked the big multi-level shelter because it was possible there to find a quiet place to sit out of the sun for a little bit. This doesn't look like much from the street, but once you get over the hill, you'll see it's gorgeous!Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - montanan_travelermontana1,823 contributionsTake your time. There is a lot to see, do and read about. There was a chance to hear the bells of the mission ringing which was magical.Written April 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TennisStar602New Jersey671 contributionsThe San Antonio River goes for miles, and there were nicely landscaped walkways on both sides of this river. I had a meal on this river at a Mexican restaurant, and I took a boat ride on this river as a child. My walk was very scenic.Written March 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- DeidreNYCNew York City, NY33 contributionsThis art museum showcases the private art collection of San Antonio heiress Marion McNay, the museum's founder, in her former mansion. I live in NYC, so I get my fill of art, but the collection here is beautifully curated. There is only one Alice Neel painting, for example, but it is an evocative portrait of a Black girl holding a blue-eyed doll. Paul Gauguin is represented by a bracing self-portrait and a Tahiti painting that features a young nun in her habit sitting amid the islanders that Gauguin is known for painting. There was other contemporary art by unfamiliar artists that was creative and thought-provoking. The museum has a peaceful courtyard in the center to rest your eyes and breathe. Don't miss the short video on the second floor about McNay's fascinating life (four husbands, no less!).Written March 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ArielleMobile, AL28 contributionsI visited the Botanical Garden on a very humid day. It had been raining previously. Despite that, it was very nice to see all of the pretty flowers and plants. I explored a bit, kinda got a little lost here and there (the map was a little confusing to me). But, I think I saw *most* things. There was also some construction going on and some areas roped off for private events. Overall, it was still very peaceful.Written April 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
