Samuel Lloyd, Jr. was born on Nov. 12, 1963, in Springfield, VT., to aspiring actors Marianna McGuffin and Samuel Lloyd, Sr. He spent his life in theater and music, as well as being a longtime television and film actor--- a career that spanned well over three decades. He played bass guitar in a Beatles tribute group called The Butties (their website states that Sam, who was naturally right-handed, taught himself to play left-handed, because "that's how McCartney does it."). Sam was also a singer in the a capella group The Blanks, which made several appearances in the hit show "Scrubs" as a group called The Worthless Peons. Amongst the many programs in which Sam appeared were "The West Wing," "Malcolm in the Middle," "Seinfeld," and "Desperate Housewives." He also appeared in the film Galaxy Quest (1999) and others. But his most frequent role (95 episodes) was that of Ted Buckland, the hospital's woebegone, demoralized attorney, in "Scrubs." In January 2020, shortly after his wife Vanessa Villalovos Lloyd gave birth to their son Weston, Sam was diagnosed with lung cancer, which had metastasized to his brain, spine, liver and jaw. Sam was known for his intuitive sense of humor, his pratfalls and deadpan comedy, as well as for being a "tender, genuine soul." In addition to his wife and son, Sam is survived by his sisters Laurel Lloyd, Robin Lloyd and Sandy Yaple; his stepmother Barbara Lloyd, and his uncle, the actor Christopher Lloyd.
