Actor Vicky Kaushal and his brother Sunny Kaushal appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show‘s latest episode. And while both the brothers shared some interesting anecdotes from their childhood, Vicky also spoke about playing Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in Meghna Gulzar directorial Sam Bahadur. The actor recalled how he was nervous for the first time in front of the camera while shooting for the film in Delhi as Manekshaw daughter’s Maya was on set. Vicky even spoke about portraying historic characters like Udham Singh on the big screen.

Talking about the same, Vicky said, “What is bigger than portraying a historic character is the responsibility that comes with it. You cannot take it lightly whether it is Udham Singhji or Sam Bahadurji. For Sardar Udham, I would hear stories from my parents.”

Vicky added, “Even when I was playing Sam Bahadur, I met his daughter Maya a few times to understand how he walked, how he spoke. Then we were shooting in Delhi. I have hardly been nervous in front of the camera, but because Sam Bahadur’s daughter was watching the shot from behind the camera, I was very scared. I did not have the courage to ask if I was going right, but I thought if I saw that disapproval in her eyes, it would break my confidence. More than half of the film was left, and I was very happy to see that when she saw that shot, she had tears in her eyes.”

Sam Bahadur clashed with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal at the box office and that led to the Vicky Kaushal-starrer not doing well commercially. But the movie received critical acclaim.
