A woman who had been missing for almost a week has been found alive and well in North Melbourne.
Samantha Heberlein was reported missing to police by her family, who had concerns about her welfare due to a medical condition.
At the time, police said her disappearance was out of character.
The 33-year-old woman was driving from New South Wales to her Point Cook home when her SUV broke down on the Princes Highway near Tamboon in far East Gippsland.
Police said someone had stopped to provide her assistance, but that was the last known confirmed point of contact.
"Missing Point Cook woman Samantha was located safe and well in North Melbourne last night," a police spokesperson said.
Police believe she hitchhiked to Bairnsdale and caught a train to the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
Police have thanked the public for their help in finding Ms Heberlein.
She was seen on CCTV at a shopping centre in Mount Waverley on Sunday.
