I have been a volunteer at SHU for many years and I love the community around SHU. I am now an incoming freshman and went to NDF right across the street from SHU. My family has been very connected with SHU since I was a former student of Horizons SHU in 2012. Sacred Heart was my motivation ever since I was a child, I knew I wanted to do something with my life and I learned that the way to do that is through education. I was able to go from living in such a bad environment and attending a poorly rated school, to now graduating from NDF and going to SHU. I will forever be grateful for the resources SHU has given me and I am so excited to go!
My experience, although short as it’s only been a year has been simply amazing. The student life has made a huge difference in the person I was going in till now. Being part of such a “family” of friends, joining a frat, and just feeling so welcome has truly boosted esteem and confidence. I do feel teachers could offer more assistance. I personally didn’t struggle but many of my peers did and they felt a lack of support and guidance from most professors. I understand the need for independence but I feel whether your a HS student struggling or an adult there is no difference and when needed should be available.
DO NOT COME HERE!!!
I am from New York, but simply due to the fact that the part of New York I’m from is NOT Long Island my life sucks. I’m transferring after two semesters and am counting down the days til I never have to return to this hell hole. The food is alright but there is only 3 dining halls so it gets old real fast. The professors are mostly nice but I’ve definitely come across some that are not qualified to teach at any level at this school. It is insanely overpriced for the quality you receive at this school. The classes are easy because the school doesn’t care, they just want your money. Everyone here is stuck up and rich and if you aren’t, well good luck. It’s a glorified private high school.
Don’t even get me started on the social life. Want to join Greek life? Good luck getting a bid! Want to go clubbing in New Haven? Have fun spending 100+ per night on Ubers, covers, and drinks. The people here suck, the dorms are absolutely disgusting, and it’s a terrible school.
