SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State football team earned its highest ranking of the season as the Hornets moved up to third in the Stats Perform FCS media poll and fourth in the AFCA FCS coaches poll, it was announced today.

This week will mark the 25th consecutive game that Sacramento State is ranked in the top 25. The team will host No. 2 Montana State on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Hornet Stadium. The game, which will be televised nationally on ESPN2, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be just the fifth matchup of two teams ranked in the top 10 in program history and only the second when both teams are in the top five.

Sacramento State enters the game with a 5-1 overall record and is 2-1 in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets have won 24 of their past 25 regular season games. Montana State is also 5-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in league play. The two teams last met in 2019 when Sacramento State knocked off the then sixth-ranked Bobcats, 34-21, in Bozeman, Mont.
