Michael Beale tells Sky Sports it was important to keep midfielder Ryan Jack for next season as he vows to revitalise his squad this summer

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has agreed a one-year contract extension.

The deal will take the 31-year-old into a seventh season with the Ibrox club.

Jack has made over 180 appearances for Rangers and has won the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup during his time at the club.

The Scotland midfielder joined from Aberdeen in 2017.

Jack told the Rangers website: "I am obviously delighted with it, it has been in the background for a little while. I am delighted to get it done before the summer and I can go and focus over the off-season.

"I have played for the club for a number of years now, I love playing for the club and I love being here.

"I'm settled and my family are settled so when I initially spoke to the manager and he said he wanted me to stay it was a no brainer."

Jack was one of a number of Rangers players out of contract this summer and is the first to agree an extension.

Manager Michael Beale has already confirmed striker Alfredo Morelos and winger Ryan Kent will be leaving Ibrox with some "tough decisions" about others.

"Since I've been in he's been available 80-85 per cent of the time so he's shown his fitness and Ryan is an integral part of the squad," he told Sky Sports News.

"It was important for me that Ryan stayed and there's an option as well, if he does well next season, for both parties to extend.

"There are a few [targets] we've been away speaking to and just trying to pull the squad together for next year.

"We've had to make some tough decisions about players inside as well and their futures and you're looking to fill those slots.

"We're losing big players across the whole pitch and we've got a couple tied up that will come out in due course and then the window doesn't shut until 1 September.

"It's been an interesting season for Rangers and hopefully we're going to end it on a high.

"There are signs that we can move forward with some of the players that we've got now but we want to add a lot of quality in the summer."
