Jameis Winston Excited To Be 'Leader' In Browns QB Room

The ex-Saints quarterback hopes to make his presence felt.

Jameis Winston is excited to be a leader in Cleveland’s locker room after the organization chose to bring him in as the backup quarterback over Joe Flacco, who led them to the playoff last season.

Winston will be QB2 behind Deshaun Watson, but that doesn’t curb his enthusiasm.

Jameis Winston is a Cleveland Brown, as is Deshaun Watson, the team’s starting quarterback. A quarterback room with two quality passers can create tension, but Winston is focused on building a relationship with QB1.

"This is the first quarterback room where I'm going to be the vet in the room, and I've learned a lot from guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick and how he poured into me at Tampa and we had a different type of relationship because he had to come in and start right away and it was more of a competitive side but just seeing the way that he does business, and that's what I want to do with Deshaun, I just want to go in and lead by example,” Winston said to Kay Adams.

Winston could see the field more than expected if Watson continues to be hampered by injuries. Watson played just 12 games in two seasons, totaling 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions in those appearances.

Winston has had a bumpy couple of seasons as well. He’s thrown for four touchdowns and five interceptions in that span, which is incredibly unlucky considering he had logged 14 touchdowns with three interceptions prior to a season-ending injury in 2021.

But he knows his role here. He's QB2. But he's also a leader.
