Ruth Evelyn Martin

Ruth Evelyn Martin, age 80, of Beckley, formerly of Coal City, WV, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley. Born on January 19, 1936, in Amigo, she was the daughter of the late George Edwards and Bessie Hollins Edwards. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and was self-employed in the upholstery business for many years. She was a member of Hollywood Missionary Baptist Church at MacArthur. Mrs. Martin enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and sewing. She also loved traveling with her daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by husband, Clifford Martin, by brothers, Ray Edwards, Ernest Edwards, Lawrence Edwards and Wilford Edwards, by an infant brother, Paul Edwards, by sisters, Barbara Shrewsbury and Clara Mae Edwards. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children: Rev. Rick Martin and his wife, Robin, of Beckley, Robin Hicks and her husband, James, of White Oak, Randy Martin and his wife, Jennifer, of Beckley, and Ronda Brakefield and her husband, Jonathan, of Coal City. Two sisters, Verna Souder of Oak Hill, and Rachel Cook of Coal City. Eleven grandchildren: Patrick Martin, Nicholas Martin, Jamie Hicks, Christy Agnor, Randy Martin, Jr., Tara Prater, Kelly Goss, Billy Hager, Derek Hager, Mandee Compton and Alyssa Brakefield. Twenty great grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren also survive. The family extends special thanks to Meredith Shepherd and Kay Poe for the care given to Mrs. Martin during her extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Monday, July 11, 2016, at 1 PM with Rev. Danny Bowman, and assisted by her son, Rev. Rick Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
