WATERLOO – Ruth Anne Skinner Bennett, passed away on her 90th birthday (April 25, 2024) in Geneva General Hospital.
In keeping with Ruth Anne's wishes there will be no calling hours. The graveside service will be Friday (May 3) in Maple Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, an animal lover, Ruth Anne's request is to have memorial contributions made to Beverly's Animal Shelter, 50 E. River St., Waterloo, NY, 13165.
Ruth Anne was born April 25, 1934, in Waterloo, NY, the daughter of Harry L. and Adah Heit Skinner. She was a 1952 graduate of Waterloo Central High School. Ruth Anne earned her Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science at Grove City College in Grove City, PA. She began teaching English at Cameron County High School in Emporium, PA. She then was a substitute teacher for two years in Hornell. Ruth Anne was a consummate English teacher from 1959 to 1993 in the Waterloo Central School District and retired from the school district. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo. Ruth Anne loved gardening and flowers. After retiring from teaching, she attended FLCC majoring in Horticultural and became a NYS Certified Nursey Landscape Professional. She was a member of the Finger Lakes Day Lilies Society. Ruth Anne will be remembered for her decorating, crafts and gardening talents. Her love for her cats, especially Stuart and Blake. Many will remember her for her high fashion style which she wore with great pride. Ruth Anne was blessed with a beautiful smile and bright shining eyes that brightened the lives of her students and those around her.
She is survived by nephews and cousins, plus many friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gorden D. Bennett in 2013.
