6 Burning Questions About Ruby Sunday Doctor Who Season 14 Needs To Answer

Ruby Sunday is going to be a major part of the upcoming season of Doctor Who as Ncuti Gatwa's companion, but Ruby also has a mystery to be explored.

Despite this, Gibson's companion may not face the tragic end that others have suffered. Davies previously affirmed the character's presence in Gatwa's second season after Varada Sethu was confirmed to join the 2025 episodes as an additional companion. While Ruby may not be doomed to a fatal end, season 14's finale could see a rift form between the Doctor and Ruby, explaining why Nicola Coughlan will take on the companion role in 2024's Doctor Who seasonal special and Gibson's absence during parts of season 15's filming.

As Doctor Who season 14 draws closer, there are questions about how Davies will approach the show's new era and whether he will return to season-long overarching tales or more individual adventures. From his description, season 14 will likely be closer to his first tenure, where their individual stories hint at larger events which will be revealed in the final few episodes. With Davies teasing a heartbreak, the Doctor and Ruby will need to brace themselves for whatever tragedy is coming the TARDIS' way.

Doctor Who season 14 debuts with a two-episode premiere on May 11 on Disney+ for international audiences, and on BBC iPlayer on May 10 for UK viewers, followed by a later broadcast on BBC One later that day.
