Tottenham make contact to sign £43m Atalanta star Ruslan Malinovskyi

Tottenham have reportedly made contact to sign Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, with the Ukrainian international set to leave the Serie A side in the January transfer window.

According to Il Giorno, Spurs have been in touch with Malinovskyi’s team over a potential move in January, with Tottenham coming close to signing the Atalanta outcast in the summer before a transfer to north London ultimately collapsed.

Valued at £43m, Malinovskyi could leave Bergamo in the new year on the cheap with the 29-year-old making just four starts in all competitions this season as the midfielder’s relationship with Atalanta and coach Gian Piero Gasperini wholly fractured.

With Nottingham Forest and West Ham also interested in Malinovskyi as reported by CalcioMercato, Tottenham face some strong competition to sign the former KRC Genk. Yet with Antonio Conte’s side flying high in the Premier League and through to the UEFA Champions League round-of-16, the north Londoners should consider themselves favourites for the Atalanta star.

Indeed, Malinovskyi would add a lot of much-needed quality to Tottenham’s midfield which this season has been described as too rigid and conservative at times. And with Spurs now in contact with the Serie A outcast, a deal is seemingly in the works ahead of January.

Moreover, with an extra spark in the midfield arguably all that Tottenham are missing for the remainder of this season, getting a deal over the line for Malinovskyi in the coming weeks will be quite the catch for Conte and the Italian’s plans to take Spurs to the next level.

Depth in midfield is key for any top club wanting to go that extra mile in their personal footballing quests, and Tottenham’s pursuit of Malinovskyi is a testament to that statement, with the Ukrainian star perfect for what the north London side need in January.

With the Atalanta star going nowhere sitting on the bench, a change of scenery in the Premier League could revitalise the 29-year-old in what will likely be his final big move of his career, with Tottenham perfect for Malinovskyi post-Italy.
