Ruhr University Bochum mainly offers Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes that build on each other. Exceptions are the study programmes offered by the medical, law and, in part, the two theological faculties, which conclude with a state or ecclesiastical examination.
Some faculties also offer degree programmes that are not completed with a Bachelor's or Master's degree. These are ecclesiastical degrees such as Magister Theologiae and the state examination (state law examination, medical examinations).

With the degrees Master, Staatsexamen and the ecclesiastical Magister Theologiae, doctoral studies, i.e. further qualification and examination with the award of the PhD, are possible in all degree programmes at RUB.
