Crystal Palace transfer news: Journalist breaks down Eagles & Leicester interest in Loftus-Cheek

Journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport that Crystal Palace and Leicester City are assessing a move for Chelsea midfielder, Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Crystal Palace & Leicester eyeing Ruben Loftus-Cheek transfer

Surprisingly, the England international, who has mostly been a bench option at Stamford Bridge has played a significant number of minutes this season.

Starting 12 out of 20 games is a solid return for the 27-year-old, who has struggled with injuries and rotation since breaking into the senior team, with Cesar Azpilicueta even calling him ‘very important’ (via the Athletic) last season.

However, Chelsea are undergoing a major squad overhaul under Todd Boehly, which could make a player of his status in the side an expendable figure.

As a result, it makes complete sense why Crystal Palace and Leicester are assessing a potential switch for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

“There’s been a lot of what’s been described to me as tentative interest in [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek from English and Italian clubs. A few clubs in the Premier League have been taking a look at him, Crystal Palace being one and Leicester City being another, but no approaches have been made yet.

“It’s just interest on their side as they look at internal targets”, Simon Phillips said.

Well, Ruben Loftus-Cheek could make for a smart signing for whichever club he joins out of Crystal Palace or Leicester.

In our view: Loftus-Cheek should head to Palace

For starters, the Englishman went on loan to Selhurst Park for a season and justified the hype around his name.

Furthermore, the brand of football Palace play under Patrick Vieira would suit a player like the Chelsea academy product.

Leicester City, on the contrary have been on a downward spiral since last season, and there is not much to admire about their sporting project currently.

Keeping that in mind, if Ruben Loftus-Cheek does decide to bid adieu to Chelsea, it’s Crystal Palace and not Leicester where he should play his football next.
