Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United, who are said to be considering a move for the Portuguese tactician as a replacement for Ralf Rangnick next summer.

Rangnick was only recently appointed as interim manager at Old Trafford on a deal until June, following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the idea is for the German to then take on a two-year consultancy at the club.

As reported by the journalist Jorge Nicola, Amorim is now on the Red Devils' shortlist of coaches who could potentially take charge of the team in summer.

However, to acquire Amorim's services, Manchester United would need to trigger his 30 million euro release clause, as the 36-year-old's contract runs until 2024.

Amorim hung up his boots back in 2017 at the age of 32 and stepped into coaching after taking charge of the Portuguese third division team Casa Pia for the 2018/19 campaign.

Then, he moved to Braga, where stood out for his work before Sporting triggered his 10 million euro release clause.

Amorim went on to win one Primeira Liga, a Taca da Liga and a Supertaca Candido de Oliveira last season before leading Sporting to the Champions League's last 16, where they will face Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

Other candidates for the United job

Amorim is the latest to emerge as a potential suitor for the Manchester United job, with Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers having all been linked with a move to the Red Devils over the last few weeks.

The Paris Saint-Germain coach is United's primary target, but all three are under contract with their current teams for the time being.

Ten Hag has led Ajax to the Champions League last 16 after the Dutch side topped Group C with six wins from six.

Meanwhile, Rodgers coached Leicester City to their first-ever FA Cup back in May, but his side have struggled to replicate last season's form so far in 2021/22.
