I was blown away by this garden. Bought a map and paid a donation and was shown what to see. Very helpful. The rock garden is amazing. The azalea lawn was spectacular. Blew me away. The blue poppies in full flower. Never seen before. For free this place is fantastic. Was happy to donate.

This is a BEAUTIFUL place not to be missed in Edinburgh! So much beauty, plant diversity, and a great place to walk and enjoy nature. There is a delicious cafe to relax and enjoy a meal or snack in a beautiful setting, and also a fantastic gift shop and greenhouse.

We went here with really no expectations and only to kill time, and we are so glad that we did. This is one of the best botanical gardens we’ve been to. The layout is especially thoughtful when you consider the amount of visitors this place gets. The variety of plants is amazing. I got a lot of inspiration from what I saw on my walk through the garden. My only regret is not bringing my sketchbook.

We recently visited The Royal Botanic Gardens during our trip to Edinburgh. We hadn’t planned to do this but the concierge at our hotel recommended it. Situated a short and lovely walk from our hotel we arrived in glorious sunshine with picnic supplies in hand. A fantastic tree fern, my favourite plant, was the first plant we saw, it was magnificent. The staff were very friendly and provided us with a map and advice on which way to go. To cover the whole area in a day was impossible and so we had a gentle stroll. The gardens are some of the best we’ve ever seen with thousands of different plants and trees. We found a spot near some tranquil waterfalls for a our picnic and sat listening to the birds and slow trickle of water. It was delightful, then we carried on round to the section where what appeared to be young students working on plots growing vegetables. After a chat to a gardener and some radish tasting we visited the restaurant. A cup of tea and cake on the balcony before we left ended our visit. You must visit here and if it’s lovely weather then take a picnic.

This is a gorgeous garden. We spent most of our day here. It is so green, and has small gently rolling hills where one can get different views. Since we were there in spring, we saw many daffodils, lilies, and tulips. We had lunch at the larger of the two cafes. The dining room was very pretty and served a large selection of quality foods.

We were lucky enough to have good weather to explore the Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh. They are lovely, though not as many flowers as we were expecting! Lots of shrubs and trees and greenery, but not many flowers where we went. We entered by the East Gate on reccomendation by a friendly native! The greenhouses and Queens Garden were closed off for renovation, but the Chinese garden, and the Rockery were worth a visit. We also toured the house where there was a plants on the move exhibition. Child friendly areas in the house.

A lovely change of scenery from the city centre. Very well taken care of gardens and a lot of flairs and fauna to see. The gift shop is also a great addition to the gardens. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the city of Edinburgh. I can't wait till the biomes are finished.

Excellent visit to the Botanical Gardens, my family and I enjoyed a lovely few hours visiting different parts of the gardens. The tall redwood trees, the rockery, Chinese gardens and flower beds were highlights. Well worth visiting.

The botanical garden is a great way to spend a few hours. The current exhibit by Chris Thorogood entitled ‘Weird Plants’ is amazing and should be seen. The 8 m high living wall and the Queen Mother’s memorial garden are also stunning. This attraction is free and they just ask for a donation to keep running. Worthy of a few hours

This is an “out of town “ stop on the city hop on hop off tour. We noticed that not many hopped off here on our tour but it’s well worth two hours to wander and explore these beautiful grounds. Free admission is a bonus.
