      Rough Night Reviews

For moviegoers who aren’t fans of Broad City, Rough Night may be a rough night.

Never a Bridesmaids but always a Bridesmaids wannabe.

Rough Night is comedic carnage that will leave you in hysterics and, quite possibly, with a new fear of hen dos.

It's fun to see how the dynamics of the college friends manifest under stressful circumstances but the strain they feel mirrors the strain the movie feels trying to find a consistent, funny tone.

Dazzled by the lineup, including comedic wunderkinds Kate McKinnon and Ilana Glazer, I assumed there would be some crudeness, vulgarity, and racy humor, but I left the movie feeling demoralized and deeply angry.

Another problem is the inclusion of five starring characters, which is too large of a number to properly define and utilize for a fast-paced, 100-minute comedy.

Rough Night is light, fluffy, and incredibly problematic...

I was pleasantly surprised by this film and I ended up laughing a lot more than I thought I would. With great cameos from Ty Burrell and Demi Moore, this was an enjoyable experience. I recommend for groups of girls who want to have a fun night out.

Rough Night sets out with a noble goal: to bring laughs. Mission accomplished.

A couple of all too short and sweet laugh-out-loud moments early on soon gives way to silly, screeching, dullsville - and a damn shame too.

'Rough Night' is a discreet movie that at least does not completely fail as a comedy. [Full review in Spanish]

In terms of a female-centered comedy, Rough Night gives it a good shot but just falls a little short. It has a great cast, but a lackluster script.

Ultimately, the film's humour is predictable and the premise is well-trodden turf that's been done better elsewhere, and what laugh-out-loud moments that do exist are few and far between...

Rough Night isn't a comedy classic nor a "game changer" for the format. But considering the comedy genre seems to have cooties lately, with few studios wanting to play with it at all, it's nice to have something to laugh at for a minute.

Rough Night is just as it says a rough night for these friends but it is overall a refreshing kind of comedy, even if it is not non-stop hilarious.

      Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | Apr 30, 2019

Building on the adage that what's good for the goose is also good for the gander, Rough Night borrows from a slew of lowbrow bachelor movies and aims for girl-power gold, but instead lays the proverbial egg.

      Full Review | Original Score: 4/10 | Apr 16, 2019

The plot is thin, the characters shallow, and the laughs nonexistent.

      Full Review | Original Score: 1.5/5 | Dec 20, 2018

ROUGH NIGHT is a mixed bag of party favors that has an acceptable amount of laughs throughout. But relying too heavily on the character dynamics was a fatal flaw.

What the world really needs is for Kate McKinnon to star in her own movie instead of being the savior for these poor comedic films.

In its swingiest of hits and misses, Rough Night displays a fantastic same-sex relationship in the same breath as it makes fun of fat people.
