What a stunningly beautiful hotel. This was a very special trip to Rottweil for my daughter and me. Prior to our trip, I had emailed the hotel requesting a room with a beautiful view. We were given room # 5. Everything about our room was exceptional. The view was absolutely breathtaking & even from the bathroom windows. The craftsmanship in our room, bathroom, and hotel in general is truly lovely & made it so very serene. We were amazed each morning by the incredible assortment of items to choose from for the breakfast buffet, & the service equaled a fine dining experience. This was all included in the price of the room! The staff was so friendly, and the Gentleman behind the desk was very helpful and patient with our questions and lack of being able to speak German.
I could go on and on with praises. There is not one thing I would change about our experience, and I can't wait to return one day. Thank you Ringhotel Johanniterbad.

This has always been our favorite hotel in Rottweil, mainly because of its great location, its excellent restaurant with delicious regional cuisine, and because it had a lovely old-world personality… but wow, were we in for a surprise when we arrived here for our recent stay! The hotel has undergone major remodeling and as a result it has now been transformed from a traditional small-town hotel into a sophisticated boutique hotel, with a new, cutting-edge design that is truly spectacular. But best of all, despite all the changes, the hotel has managed to hold on to its charm, warmth and character, with the result that we now love this hotel even more. It is obvious that a lot of money was spent on this transformation, and the result is truly spectacular, so congratulations to the Johanniterbad Hotel team – what a fantastic job! We already look forward to our next stay at your hotel…

We spent two nights here in early December 2009. We had a large double bed room with a large bath (with tub + shower) and balcony. Our room had a fair size table, and ample storage available. The hotel offered a pretty good breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, sliced cheeses and meats, bread, yogurt, fruit coffee and juices. Restaurant service was very good. The hotel is situated in the old part of town overlooking a small valley. The hotel is only a few minutes by foot from the center of town. The city is old. And intact. We went here to visit a relatively untouristed well preserved middle aged town. A good restaurant in town is Zum Mohren, where authentic Swabisch food can be had at reasonable prices. The hotel has a very nice restaurant of their own. In the evenings we noticed that the restaurant was somewhat busy from local diners. We ordered room service one night, which was quickly delivered to our room at a reasonable proce. If I ever visit Rottweil again I will certainly stay at this hotel. The staff was multilingual and friendly. Rottweil is about 1 hour and 30 minutes south of Stuttgart by train. In the summer Rottweil is frequented by bicycle tours of trekking through the Black Forest and Bodensee (Lake Constance) areas.

This was more expensive than other places I stayed in Germany on this trip, and for the price I got a dorm room - completely lacking in charm. The cleaners used in the room were overwhelming - it took a couple of hours with windows open for it to be bearable. The hallways were worse though, permeated with the smells of the hotel restaurant. Really not a pleasant experience.

Stayed here for a one night stop over. Nice hotel with clean rooms and good breakfast. Staff a little frosty but efficient, could be mote friendly. Enjoyed our short stay and wander around the town. No staff on site during the night which we found unusual

This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life! It was an absolute nightmare! Me and my son were attending a wedding and reception. We checked into the hotel and the first thing I noticed was that there was no air conditioning, no complimentary water, nothing. Just a note saying please don't mess up the room or you will have to pay extra! But this is not the bad part. Before we left the hotel, which was around 2 p.m., we stopped at the reception desk to tell them that we would be coming back late and would the room key allow us to get back into the hotel. The woman at the desk said no, the sensor on the door was broken and that we needed to call before 2 a.m. and someone would be there to let us in. So at promptly 1 a.m. I called the number. No one answered the phone. I tried again at least 5 times and no one answered! We returned to the hotel around 3 a.m. All of the lights were out and there was no one to be seen. There was a doorbell in front of the hotel, which I rang and rang like crazy. Still no one appeared. I told my son that it looks like we will have to sleep in the car! Thank God we did not leave the car keys in the room (we almost did!) So here we are, 3 in the morning, sleeping in a small car, not being able to enjoy the room that we booked. I was so angry that I could not sleep a wink. Every hour I would check to see if I saw anyone in the hotel. After three and a half hours someone finally appeared in the hotel. I rang the doorbell frantically and the owner opened the door and let us in. I told him what happened and he he apologized but not in a way that seemed authentic. We finally went up to the room and slept for another 2 hours, showered and went down for breakfast (which ends at 10 o'clock in the morning). Since the weather was nice, we decided to eat on their outside terrace. We sat down, thinking that someone would set the table and bring coffee. There were at least 3 waitresses working. No one came to the table. We had to get our own silverware and everything. The only thing the waitress brought to the table was coffee. We ended up not paying for the room, but we still had to pay for the breakfast! It was the worst hotel experience I ever had in my entire life and I'm 57 years old!

Very quiet, clean and simple design hotel. I did not taste the kitchen but looks to be special. Central location with a parking in front. Rooms are not so large but ok for a short stay. I did not try the kitchen but heard to be delicious.

Modern hotel, very clean nice-sized room, quite (except for church bells and the occasional train in the distance - we considered these quaint and they did not bother us), comfortable, w flat-screen tv, safe, mini-bar and a balcony. We had a 'Comfort Double Room'. Plenty of (clean, clean, clean) space for clothes and suitcases. Bed was German style, ie small divider down the middle lengthwise, but was very comfortable and the split didn't bother us. Front desk service was odd, not always present, but very friendly and helpful when available. If you wanted something when nobody was there, it was tough to get somebody to answer your call. Breakfast came with the room, European style, and was plentiful, lots of choice, healthy and excellent. We looked forward to breakfast every day.

The only watch-out we can think of was that the room is not air conditioned. Ambient temps were moderate for us, but the hotel might present a challenge if it was 80s and 90s outside.

Rottweil is a very nice, little town with a long history and on the eastern outskirts of the Schwarzwald. The hotel is located close, but not too close, to the oldest part of town which is within easy walking distance. Picturesque and within reach of many things to see - Boden See (Lake Constance), Titisee, Northern Switzerland, Strasbourg, Baden Baden, Triberg, Freiburg, Stuttgart, Vogtsbauernhof open-air museum, cuckoo clock museums and of course all of the scenery and atmosphere of the Black Forest. Many, many bicyclers in and around town all the time.

In Rottweil they celebrate alemanisch Fasching (old-style carnival) in February.

The hotel quality is excellent. The food is very good. The portions are well made.
The rooms are clean. Distance from the nice city center is just 5 minutes walk. its true that the city is not so big, but the hotel is in a quiet corner or city center. One negative if You arrive late night You might not have a place to park Your car as the hotel's parking lot is full due to the restaurant guests.
