Scottish Premiership: Ross County v Hibernian

Hibernian boss Nick Montgomery tells BBC Scotland: "Frustrating, it's a game should've won. We should've seen the game out.

"I find it hard to understand where seven minutes injury time came from. We're then defending nearer the eight-minute mark, defending a throw in that's our throw in. It's hard to explain how that can happen, but it did. It's a real sickener.

"The players are incensed because we shouldn't have to defend our own throw in. Everybody was confused as to how that happened.

"We switched off waiting for it to be pulled back."

Dundee manager Tony Docherty is "absolutely delighted".

"I'm really proud of the players," he tells BBC Scotland. "I thought the level of performance was outstanding. We created so many opportunities.

"At half-time, I just said to the boys continue that play and the law of averages is we'll get that opportunity to go and score.

"There was a real mentality about them to make sure we saw the game out and got all three points. That pleases me most.

"We're improving, they're learning, there's a development. I don't think there was a failure in the team."

The narrative was about to be written about Hibs' continued improvement since the winter break. New signings and returning players have helped them to a four-game unbeaten run in the league. That is now five matches, but this feels like a defeat.

This was the second meeting between these sides in 11 days, and both swung on a half-time change by Hibs boss Montgomery. At Easter Road, Dylan Levitt's introduction helped Hibs to a 2-0 win, but this time it was the midfielder who was hooked for the brilliant Adam Le Fondre.

The veteran striker instantly gave Hibs a presence up front, as his physicality and clever movement caused problems. He had two further chances to score, as well as being pivotal for both goals.

After his lovely first-time strike Hibs were on course for a first comeback win in the league this season. Their new-found resilience would have been a talking point, particularly when David Marshall brilliantly denied Simon Murray in stoppage time.

And although they will feel particularly aggrieved at the decision to award County a throw-in, they still had to defend their box.

Their inability to do so has consistently cost them, and the first County goal came from confusion between Marshall and his defenders when a cross came in, which allowed Josh Sims to tap in.

Their top-six hopes will remain fragile until they learn to keep clean sheets.

As for County, such a dramatic late goal with wild celebrations at the end could be the turning point for them.

The individual quality they have in Yan Dhanda, Victor Loturi and others is clear. But they too struggle to defend their box and play as a team at times, and in truth Hibs had the better of the play.

But resilience can go a long way in a relegation scrap. A seven-point gap to Livingston feels psychologically significant, although with Hearts and Rangers still to play before the split Don Cowie will not be getting carried away.

Nonetheless this was a morale-boosting night for them.

Ross County boss Don Cowie tells BBC Scotland: "I enjoyed it because that time in the game there wasn't long to go. That never say die attitude was massive for us and it could prove to be a vital point.

"We showed that against Livingston as well. I'd rather we did it earlier but glad we got a point out of it.

"I've got a really string squad now and it's about making the right decisions. It was great for Yan [Dhanda] to come off the bench and make an impact and get the equaliser."

Neil Warnock's whirlwind spell in charge of Aberdeen lasted eight games, including two cup wins and none in the league. The overall stats do not make good reading for the Dons with 0.93 points per league game after 29 fixtures.

Leadership is needed both on and off the pitch with a relegation fight an increasing prospect following County's draw at home to Hibs. Aberdeen also have a Scottish Cup semi-final with holders Celtic on the horizon.

Bojan Miovski was too isolated in attack but still managed to create openings and win set-pieces for his side. Servicing and supporting the prolific striker will be crucial if Peter Leven or his successor are to make something of the season.

Dundee showed far more hunger on the night and got the full reward of three points. They maintained their intent after Aberdeen started to show ambition and in the wake of the goal. A home win always looked the most likely result.

Aberdeen caretaker boss Peter Leven tells BBC Scotland: "Not good enough, started poor. Passing poor, decision-making really poor, never picked up second balls.

"We looked nervous, we looked panicky on the ball. Inconsistent league form has killed us.

"I told the players they need to realise the situation we're in here. We're in trouble. We have a massive game on Saturday, games are running out.

"The penny has to drop. We need to find a way to start winning games."

"Everybody knew Aberdeen would've come out and given it a better go second half. But we kept at it and it worked out.

What's happening at Aberdeen is frightening.

Aberdeen have failed to score in 13 of their 29 games, only Ross County (15) and Livingston (14) have failed to score more often in the Premiership this season.

Yikes. Also, no goals in seven games for Bojan Miovski.

Dundee were the better team in the second half as well.

It could and should have been much more comfortable for them.

For Aberdeen, it's more turmoil.

Aberdeen are now without a league win in 11 games, not since 2 January away to Ross County.

They are playing with fire.

Yan Dhanda will sign for Hearts in the summer.

Dundee were well worth their three points but their winner came in controversial circumstances through Luke McCowan's penalty, awared for handball on Jack MacKenzie.

Dundee into the top six. Aberdeen just three points above 11th.
