To my ears, this is by far the best Greg Rollie solo CD as it stays the truest to the rhythm's that were at the heart of Santana Band's music w/ lotsa Clave, Cha Cha Cha & Samba rhythms at the pulse of the grooves on these recordings... the other CDs seem more rock/pop compared to this treasure as this CD sounds more like Abraxas Pool than the others [there's even one song on Abraxas Pool that is on this CD !]... also, there are alot more dynamic variations w/ the guitars as nylon string instrumentals & acoustic soloing are included as well as trademark heavier electric guitar Santana sounds... i really LOVE most of this recording's tracks as only one or two seem to have that rock orientation that was to become his style on his other records that are less attractive to my gypsy ears- mostly Latin American & World Beat ritmos make this CD much more appealing !!! anyway, i just wanted to clarify that this "Roots" release is much more "Santana-esque" than his other solo releases to my ears... a GRRREAT addition to any Santana fan's collection !!!

Gregg is an unsung hero in my book...people forget that he was equal to Carlos in the original Santana band and actually brought in the band's first success when he recommended Peter Green's Black Magic Woman. This CD carries on the tradition of the first three Santana records. It is passionate, fiery, musical, rhythmic...without all of the all-star hype. (Sorry Carlos). Carlos if you read this, get back to your roots and collaborate with Gregg, Chepito, Michael S., Michael C. David and of course Neal. I believe that you can still be effective without having an allstar cast. These players that I mentioned are second to none. Let's not forget that Chepito and Michael C. almost joined Hendrix. Sorry about the tangent here. This CD is a "must have" for anyone who likes the "latin-rock" genre. It's powerful even without tagging a "genre" name to it. Great job Gregg! Great VOCALS AND KEYBOARD WORK-->BUY THIS!

Turns out to be a great album that I was unaware of until a few weeks ago.
I got this from a seller for less than $18 and it is the best price of the bunch!
I looked online and no one could match it. The sound quality is very good and
I enjoyed a lot of the tracks on this disc. I have followed Gregg since his start as
a founding member of the Santana band in 1969 or so and his stint with Journey.
The first cut, "Give it to Me" is fantastic and reminded me of the early sound that
I liked so much as a teenager. The mellow songs are quite good, "Ordinary Man"
being one of the best on the CD. Lots to love here! This one is a keeper......The
wishing well came through for me!

I liked about 2/3 of this album. It’s probably the best Greg Rolie solo project. It has a certain Santana feel at times. Some really cool acoustic based songs.

In this almbum Gregg can't hide the rock-afro-latin influence he kept along all these years and since he played with Carlos Santana.
Good album in general, he is also surrounded by good musicians, which is pretty obvious as listening the high-quality album cuts.

This guy is a real talent and I enjoyed the cd a lot. I wish him all the best and hope he's happy. He's a pioneer of one of the greatest sounds of the 60's. He's a legend in my eyes and I'll always love anything he does.

Très bon disque de fondateur de Santana

Certes Carlos a le son de guitar, mais Gregg était la voix et cet orgue dans les premiers discs de Santana. Pour moi, c'est plus Gregg que Carlos responsable di son des 3 premiers albums.

If you Like Santana then buy this CD. At times if you close your eyes you would think Santana is playing. Very much a Spanish/Mexican touch to music. Love the CD. Buy it.

ROOTS MAKE IT STRONGER
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 9, 2008
Like a tree, it can't survive without Roots. Gregg Rolie has shown, on this album that there can be no weakness, and only it can grow strong & fourish. This album is simply, superb. There are no weak tracks. Best track is Orient Express. Brilliant, brisk, crisply moving piece of guitar work, i have not heard since Carlos Santana did accoustic guitar. Well done Tom Edwards

Gregg Rolie sous influence...
Reviewed in France on June 4, 2012
